do i need a logger?

i know what a logger reads, im curious as to IF i would really need one.

my car is slightly modded, and i will probably continue to do so to an extent. which would probably sooner or later include a new turbo (t25 sucks so ill probably get an evo iii, nothing HUGE). so id like to keep my fuel mods to a minimum, which im hoping would go no further than a walbro 190/rewire.

would i really NEED a logger? would there be any other benefits besides the check engine reading/clearing? thats about the only reason right now im considering getting one. i read everywhere that they are totally indispensible and do wonders for everyone, but im assuming these are all people with SAFC's and such.

Well, I see it as an important tool. After driving with one, I dont' think I coule see myself driving without one in the future. It just gives you more info on what could possibly be wrong with your motor, fuel trims, compter, etc. I don't see it as necessary if you are running stock boost levels with an Evo with 190 though. It would be nice to have, but as long as you keep boost down you'll be ok. If you upgrade to MAFT, SAFC, or any other kind of fuel mod, a logger will be important.

I would get the logger because I don't know anybody who has put a bigger turbo on there care and didn't turn up the boost just a little bit. That's how it all starts, just a little more, then a little more. I mean if you seriously aren't going to run higher than stock boost levels than as blackgsx2g said, you don't neccesarily need the logger but it is nice to have.

Running even stock or close-to stock boost levels on an evoIII, you're going to have a lot more air flow. You could still be getting knock or pulled timing and not even know it. Spend $130 on a logger so you don't spend $3k replacing the engine.

im at 15psi right now, and i wont go any further than 20psi. then again, i really dont know if ill even want to get up to 20, im sure i will someday if ive got mods to let me safely.

annnnd i really woudlnt know what any of these figures mean anyways or what to notice if something not running right anyways? ... is it easy to learn/understand what these readings are trying to tell me anyways?

uhhhhhhhhhhh thanks for answering my question.

and i do have the time/money to spend learning about my car, thats why im posting here, im trying to learn, im asking for a little guidance/help.

so i guess maybe i should ask if someone can link me to something that more explains what a logger can do for me, maybe train me to use it? ive read the pocketlogger site and that tells me what parameters it reads, but doesnt tell me what those figures would do for me.

Just cut to the chase and get DSMlink. Everyone gets it or considers getting it or regrets not getting it sooner or later. And its the best tuning/diagnostic tool out there for our cars.

Oh yeah and Evo3+

2.5-3" Exhaust
190lph fuel pump
550 Injuectors
SAFC or DSMlink (to control fuel)

These are the beginning supporting mods for the Evo3 turbo.
Remember to try and consider ALL possible modsd before you do them, so you can get an idea of the bigger picture.
