hello, im very new to the DSM world. im actually about to go and buy my very first one. up until now, ive been all JDM. ive owned 2 Hondas, and now i think its time to step it up. ive found a 98 Talon tsi, with 123000 miles, but the owners wrere old men. so its been babied its whole life. good deal? do these cars go for a long time? what kind of maintence may be due at this milage? please tell me everything i need to know about the DSM world. i have a good knowledge of how a car works, and all that, but is it like fixing a honda? this is also my first turbo car. any tips on how to keep it up?? thanks in advace everyone.

With the owners being older it sounds like it's a good car but we can't comment on the "deal" until you give us a price ;) . And just like any other car, change the oil, do sched. maint on time, and as soon as you hear a sound or cel get it checked. :thumb:

I'm assuming that it's fwd right?? either way i think that's a pretty good price, not a steal but a fair price..IMO.

damn, i got it tonight, and this thing simply blows my hondas away. i love turbo cars!! its awesome. so what kind of mods do these cars respond to the best?

its fwd, and today i put on an intake, so what kind of stuff should i do next? also, how many punds do these run on stock? what are there limits? thanks

There's a neat little tuning guide on here that shows you just about everything you need to do to make your car faster :thumb: . Welcome to the dsm community, you'll find that most of us are very friendly and helpful :)

when you blow that one up, its ok. Research on 6 bolt / 7 bolt. You can find good deals on 6 bolt 4g63s and be sure to put one of THOSE in and not the same motor you are running now. Intake / exhaust first things i generally do. Also, i replace all of the IC piping with real metal pipes. Cleans up the bay alot and it holds less heat.. and .. its just better. Good luck, and welcome to the DSM community.

hey, thanks for all of the help. i saw the stage 1 tuning guide, its very helpful, now i have somewhat of a plan. what do you mean by 6 bolt and 7 bolt? types of engines or something? thanks. anyone know the stock boost? thanks again.

get a boost gauge and you will know the stock boost. Varies from car to car but should be around 9-11. Then again with an intake only my tsi hit 13 psi. 6 bolt refers generally to the stock engine from the first gen. dsm and the 7 bolt generally to the second gen. dsm's. Read up on the advantages and disadvantages of each and you will know why you should get the 6 bolt :thumb:
