Do I have a factory 1g sunroof?!

Hello everyone,

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the dsm game, but I have been itching for another one for years, and finally picked up a 1ga gsx just like my old high school one I used to have.

This car was listed as a sunroof car, however upon closer inspection. This definitely seems like an aftermarket sunroof glass and latch assembly.

My concern is if this is even an original sunroof car?!

Can anyone help me try to determine that?

I took some measurements of the glass, and the outer diameter of the sunroof border. Hoping to maybe compare with some of you out there.

I’ll eventually get to removing the entire headliner and taking a closer look at the bare roof. But for now this is why I have.

Glass: 29 inches long, 14 inches wide.

Outer border: 31 inches long, 16 inches wide

It’s a dealer aftermarket option. The actual OEM 1G DSM sunroof is really very square. And a lot more flush with the roof.

Welp that’s what I was afraid of it leaks and is even missing hardware where the latch bolts to the actual glass.

What would be my best option as far as finding a replacement? Replacement glass or weather seals and latch assembly? Damnit I am not looking forward to this.

Honestly, the 1G sunroofs kinda suck. I would just seal the pos off with window weld and paint over it. It’s what I did to my old gray 1G and never looked back and loved it. No more sun raping the back of my neck and head/face, and no moldy seats from the pos leaking.

If you want to keep it functional? Invest in some universal weather stripping and make the actual clamp device that pulls down clamp the hell out of it. Then you’ll just have to worry about the bastard sun.

Oh and seal around the edges and stuff too whether you keep it functional or not. Window weld ftw.

Definitely aftermarket. This website has every replacement part for just about every aftermarket sunroof maker dating all the way back to the 80's. You should be able to find whatever you need here. I had a 1G gsx with just about the same sunroof you're showing and found what I needed from them.

Super late to this but thank you!! I called these guys and they pointed me to a listing on ebay that seems to be my exact sunroof glass that includes my broken top latch!
