Disco Potato Turbo..

here's what I know, during the 1st sport compact car "ultimate street car competition" there was a late model sentra, painted an odd chameleon color. for the color and shape of this car it was dubbed "Disco Potato" it was the 1st car they'd seen with this prototype turbo which is a member of the T28 family. from what has been said this turbo is designed for 1.8-2.0 street cars, it is supposed to have very linear power delivery, and unnoticable lag. it's also supposed to be quite efficient, and produces usable power. this would be an excellent replacement for a 16G or regular T28 if the price is right. but it is by no means a drag turbo, and will not produce the huge peak power figures the 50 trim+ guys are going for. it would probobly make an excellent autocross turbo.

if you want to read up on cars that have this turbo go to www.sportcompactcarweb.com .their project silvia is equipped with it, and of course , the disco potato sentra was in the 1st USCC.

From the Garrett catalog, "The Disco Potato" is the Garrett GT28RS. It has a 62 trim, 60 mm compressor that flows about 37 lbs/min. It is available with a 76 trim, 53.85 mm turbine with a .86 or .64 A/R turbine housing.

My interpretation is that this turbo flows like a small 16g with t25-like spool. IMO, an evo III 16g is better for your money.

This is something I would like to know as well.

No, it will not bolt on.

so the GT28RS turbo wont bolt directly up to the 2g manifold? It shares the same rectangular pattern doesnt it? I was curious, im really eyeing that turbo right now.

Rectangular??? have you ever looked at a DSM Manifold???

hmmm

disco potato 495 cfm
evoIII 16g 530cfm

and the evoIII turbo is cheaper

that turbo is supposed to make amazing low end and top end power people are making 300+ hp in the 2000 rpm range

"Supposed to". Out of a 2-liter? Impossible. Not doubtful, nor unlikely, nor even interesting. Just plain out impossible. Perhaps at triple that rpm.

Nothing is impossible. I supose if you had a built 4g63 with like 11:1 compression and a 150 shot and used it at 2000rpm 300hp MIGHT be possible. But most certainly unlikely.

yeah not on a 4g63 - even the stock head and cams don't really flow till ~3krpm

yeah i accually ment it was capable of making 300hp in the 2000k-3000k range but the dyno sheets i seen were on a sr20det so..... i still believe notthing is impossible

guess it doesnt work with the stock manifold...what turbo's bolt up to the stock 2g mani? i want a turbo with more power, but student budget comes into play and i want more power the the least amount of money. GT28RS is the turbo I want though, what do i need to be able to use the disco potato? i take it from everyone's response, its a pretty sweet turbo. ROFL
