So I have gotten all of the wires in my stereo identified, but before I hooked them all up, my interior lights, dash/gauge lights, and key alarm did not work.

The only wire I didn't hook up was the dimmer wire. It is black with a yellow stripe. From my investigations under the hood and such, I have seen ground wires be black with a yellow stripe as well. Is the dimmer wire grounded through the stereo typically? Does it need to be grounded now?

Thanks!

I have a similar problem too, previous owner of my car cut/spliced all these wires behind the radio to install a new one and now my obdII code reader doesn't work anymore. Only code readers that are self powered, example, emissions center readers.

So I decided to be a bit brave, and I hooked the illumination wire to the headunit, and the dimmer to the ground, and what do you know.. I have my dash lights back... so seemingly for anyone who wants to know.. if you cut your deck out and lose lights... wire the dimmer (black with yellow stripe) to the ground.

:)

Uhm, dude there is an illumination wire on the stock stereo harness guys! There are two! Look on the forums here, there is a wire diagram of everything! IF you cant' find it, turn the key to on... grab a multimeter and test the wires... check for a wire that has 12v running through it, then turn off your lights and check it again! You'll find it easily!

Oh shit, I didn't realize you were having ground issues... I've noticed alot of DSM's have ground issues with the illumination... what I did was I grabed a illumination wire where ther ewas a bulb that I dont really use.... my cigarette tray light! and I grounded the ground wire, which I belive yes is a black and yellow wire, directly to the Chassis. I think its something involving the dimmer switch breaking... Cause when I lost my lights... I pulled the plug off the dimmer and it was burnt up... maybe it killed a ground. But I dont have much use for it since I have aftermarket gauges.
