cornwall,
Hello there guys. Im looking into getting myself a Talon soon. Now im trying to figure out the difference in models. So what is the difference inbetween the TSI and ESI and which of them is the AWD and which one of them is the turbo model. It seems like so many of them have the hood with the imprint on it that looks like its for a turbo but do they all actually have the turbo in them? Because im looking for the AWD model and it doesnt have to have a turbo but that would be a plus.

Thanks

TSI=Turbo
ESI=Non Turbo
No bump in hood =1.8 liter non turbo
To tell the differnce between AWD and front wheel drive, look for a driveshaft going to the rear and the pumpkin.
90-91 LASERS are FWD only
All AWDs are turbo, you cant go wrong there

sweet i was trying to find a guide like that thanks for posting it up.. now atleasy no wi know that all TSi's are turbod.

what sort of things should i look out for on buying a 91-94 talon?

Rust, (especially under the rear sideskirts), Old unmaintained timing belts and accessories, Broken trannies, Leaky ecu capacitors, Boost controllers with no fuel mods, Non recirculated bovs, Idle surge, Headlight motors stuck up or down (90-91) only, Clutch engagement points.

Most of these issues are for modified talons if you get a stock talon just check first three issues, most others can be repaired quite cheaply. Im sure I missed some but when I go look at a TEL these are some of the things I look for. I always bring a 10mm wrench and socket and a phillips screwdriver to dig a little deeper than most :sneaky:

k thanks... yeah i work at a Canadiantire in the parts department so i get discounts on parts. I checked and we dont carry everything for these cars but we do carry enough. So thats always a good thing.

On a related note, rather than starting a new thread...

I'm looking to replace worn or busted parts on my `90 TSI AWD. Is there ANYthing body/interior wise that is compatible between the `90-91 years and the `92-94 years, or is it a complete redesign?

I'm specifically looking to replace carpeting, various interior plastic trim pieces, and the rubber weather seals around the doors. Broadening my used parts search to include the 92-94 years would greatly improve my ability to locate compatible parts - but will they fit?

It's clear that certain things like the fenders, hood, front bumper, front light assemblies, etc have changed - I'm just wondering how comprehensive the changes are...

Regards,
- SK
