I just got my 6 bolt back from the machine shop, I had the usual work done. Any-how, I was looking over my receipt and remembered that I had the shop shot peen my rods. I had forgotten all about that part of the work and happened to have one of my rods sitting in my lap. I was rather satisfied with my self; putting 2G pistons on my nifty 1G big boy rods. As I looked the length of the rod, I didn't really see anything that might scream " I've been shot peened, look at me". So I'm not convinced there was any shooting going on here. Whats a shot peened rod look like any way?

Does anyone have pictures of a 1G rod after being shot?

Is there a noticeable difference in the look after shot peening the rod?

Well I'd post a picture of what my "shot big rods" look like, but my PC crashed last night; this time was a bad one. Once I get every thing loaded onto the laptop I'll be back in business.

Thanks,Sean.

So.... you don't know what you're looking for, but you think it isn't there? WTF
The finish may be more dull than a non-shot rod. If you don't have a before and after to hold up and look at under a glass, you probably won't be able to tell the difference by eye.
If they charged you for it, you can figure it has been done. Machine shops live and die by word-of-mouth, and don't want to find new careers by lying to customers.

Depending on the size of the shot and the pressure you may not be able to tell. Like Defiant said I to would think the process was done even if you are unable to notice anything.

Just for reference, some shot peened rods look like this:

But remember, you might not be able to tell.

You cant go by this pic because the beam was polished before being shot peened.

As stated, a shot peened finish looks like a newly cast rod. If they have rust spots on them or have any oil staining on them, chances are they werent shot peened.

You should however see a decrease in the edge of the normally sharp edges.

Not trying to argue your point but on my end I wish that were true, but theres so many unhonest ppl in this world in every field of work, especially the crooks in the automotive business now days and I understand him for not being too gullable in trusting them, because when I first got my first car and started driving i was ripped off bad by a ( even big industrial ) automotive shop and had a court issue and everything, so therefore i stick to one guy ( my dsm tuner/mechanic ) working on my car if it isnt me myself.... But hopefully they did what they were suppose to do correctly and that isnt the case with him.

( And maybe he just expected something more obvious, because honestly I wouldnt know what to look for either but would think something possibly would look different about them from when I gave them to the shop... )
