Where to start.

YES, not all DSM's came with an LSD in the rear, however ALL CENTER DIFFERENTIALS are viscous, viscous means limited slip. Viscous is how ALL of our center differentials operate.

It takes some understanding of how our drivetrain components work. The center diffs in our cars use a silicone like heavy fluid as a medium and as soon as the (I don't know 17 plates?) start rotating at different speeds, the motion on the plates in the medium fluid will cause it to heat and become nearly solid because the viscosity of dilatant increases because of the heat. It's basically friction based. The fluid will then lock the plates together and transmit power from one set of plates to the other.

Viscous couplings are used as the center differential in some four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles such as the Toyota Celica GT-Four, and also as a limited slip differential (LSD) in rear axles. They offer a cheaper way to implement four-wheel-drive than technologies like the mechanical-transfer Torsen differentials used by Audis.
