Alright, I need some help.

I am in need of a new transmission (Tranny walk, LOL) and I have a guy who has a tranny that he THINKS is good, but he can't be sure.
If I buy it and take off the case, can I tell it's good by looking at all the internals? What can I look for. Should I post pics of it on here? I am NOT a transmission specialist.
Thanks!

Ummm you can't by just looking into it. It is so hard to explain right now because i dont have ten minutes to type this out but i would reseach on wiki a syncro transmission or something...

Why does he "think" its good and not "know" its good? Just be careful, people will do anything to make a quick buck. If he's selling it "as is" I would just look elsewhere. How much does he want for it?

I know him personally.

He's a nice guy. It's a manual trans.

He's giving me a good deal on it (Not because it's bad, because he's trying to help out).

100$ for a tranny.
He had it on a parts car, and apparently it was good, but he just took it out right away because he didn't need it.
If I look at the trans, and check that it goes into all the gears okay on the linkage on the top, should I just go for it? He'll give me my money back if It is shitty.
It's just the work :(

yeah i'd go for it for a hundred if you know the guy that's a plust too ! man i can change one in two hours.... or close too.. I've done it so many times. Right now i have a shep transmission with rebuilt t case also. Second shep trans I've had ( gst and gsx ) One of the best investments i've made for my car. But for a hundred that's really good especialy if it works.

Ok so you know the guy, it's only a $100, and he'll give you your money back if it's no good, seems like a pretty simple choice to me. Yeah you'll have to install it, then uninstall it if its no good and put the old one back on, but hey at least you'll be giving yourself more experience if nothing else :)

This will be the second time I take my tranny out, if the one I put in is bad.. third....

No more experience with them transmissions is needed.
:p

Thanks guys, I was just wondering if I could check, I guess not haha.

I would tell him (friend or no friend) since he isn't 100% sure that its good and would give it to me in writing that I am willing to give you half the money up front and the rest after a week and everything is good. Have it in writing, your only protecting your own ass and that is what everyone should do.

New trans feels brand new.

Well.. Old trans..
