Turn on the a/c and it'll blow out air but only on the regular vents. It won't change modes though. No defrost or floor. Would it maybe be a vacuum leak under the dash or a bad switch? Anyway to tell? Need it working for those mornings that the windows are all fogged up. Thanks.

Well, first answer. The controls are cable, not vacuum. So thats that, when you turn for the mode selecting does it make any noise or click into position? If not your cable may have broke. Secondly, why would you want a/c to defrost your windows? Usually heat does it for meeee.. LOL

Oh okay, I know how a lot of cars use vacuum so was thinkin it was the same for that part. Wonder if it's just not connected or something. Hmmm....it doesn't make any noise. The knob turns but air keeps coming out of the same place. And yeah, it doesn't have a/c. Just heat. That's what I meant :D Thanks for the info. I'll have to go and check it out tomorrow when it's not so cold.

not sure but something weird about my vents.. when set to full heat defrost, cold air comes out the main dash vents, until I switch to main vents then hot air comes out.. like I have a leak internally so cold air leaks around the heater core or something.. ??

the heat is really good so no biggie, in fact on a -25 degree celcius day I sweat my nutsack off with full heat

Since the early eighties, cars have been using air conditioning for the defroster air to drop the moisture out of it. It should still be coming out warm.
As for your not being able to switch from floor/face/defrost, you probably have a bent, broken, disconnected push-pull wire, or a slipped wire housing.

Okay, I just went out and looked under the dash. Finally had the time.

Anyway, I turned the temperature knob and I saw a cable move. Turned the fresh air knob, saw a cable move. Turned the mode knob, I didn't see anything move and I also didn't see any extra cables that'd go to anything else to be able to move. All the cables I saw under there, moved.

So where is this cable? Do I have to take out the radio and the knobs and stuff to get to it? I was kinda hoping it'd be something simple that I'd see and could reach my hand behind the dash and see/fix. Thanks for the help.

Nevermind. I was able to find it. Thought it'd be on the passenger side but it was on the drivers side. Wasn't easy to see but I managed to reach my hand up in there and flip the lever and the defrost works now. I turned the knob and it'll pull back so that the dash will work. Just won't go the other way back to defrost. Now I just have to figure out the easiest way to get in there to it to check it out. Hate that it's dark when I get off work. Uggghhh!!!

Most likely the clip that holds the pushwire sheath has lost its grip on the sheath. Loosen the screw, push the housing back in, slide in a piece of paperclip wire to give it a tighter grip, re-tighten screw.
