Deck Cuts Out When I Hit A Bump Or Hit The Gas.

So Iv done some research and haven't been able to find anyone with the same issue. I have a kenwood deck. The previous owner used the wiring harness for the rear speakers but used speaker wires for the door speakers. Is there a specific reason for this?
Now for the original reason for the post
My deck works but it cuts off any time the car hits a bump or I hit the throttle or I brake harder than usual. I went through and re did all the connections for the stereo plug but that didn't do anything either. I don't know if this is relevant but it's power wired into a wire coming off my ignition. It only turns on when the key is in on position. I'm planning on wiring directly to the battery tomorrow and relocating/ grinding the ground for a better connection. If this doesnt work does anyone have any other ideas?

It turns off and goes black. But after the bump is over or I let off the throttle the radio comes on and does the "welcome" thing like I just turned it on.

Check the harness behind the radio to see if it is loose. Did it come with the factory infinity system?

No it did not. The radio wasn't even installed with a kit. It was just laying there in the hole for the deck.

You're losing ground connection. chassis of the radio has to be grounded to the car chassis - why the mounting brackets-they bolt to the radio chassis to bolt to the chassis of the vehicle.

ya i thought it might be the ground. they grounded it on the metal under the steering wheel and didnt grind the coating off. ill try that tomorrow. thanks.

its a ground for sure.

had a similar problem in my jeep after going 50mph down a washboard dirt road... the radio actually broke out of the dash, replaced the mounting kit and the next thing i know it kept cutting out, it had pulled the ground almost all the way out when it fell and left only a few strands of wire under the screw

Oh wow. When I did the radio on my Jeep I wired it directly to the battery with 8G wire. Had no issues with it. And I didn't have to have to key in to listen to it

I have this problem too, I know the reason mine does is because the actuall head unit kinda falls into its bracket which in turn puts pressure on the face making a loose connection with the face contacts. Sometimes it even does it when I use any button. Try to see If your radio is properly secure.

get a tester and check power supply, then try switching the ground to a new location. I found that grounding sanding down surface of the location that im going to use to set ground, made the contact better. as long as your getting constant power and the ground is good you should be okay. if nothing works try the original radio or another radio to see if this continues

Ya it's a pretty old deck. I think I'm just going to get a new deck professionally installed. That way if there's issues I can just take it back to them. Thanks guys for the input.

"The ground" or all your grounds?

Also, it could just be the deck. Kenwood made some great equipment in the 90's but a large majority of their sales anytime after that was pretty much purely out of best buy. "Quality" may have been omitted on your model.

But really, go check your grounds and you might as well be getting your alternator/battery tested while you're at it.

Ya I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade my alt. at night with my lights on at idle my gauge lights dim. Then when tr Rpms kick up they brighten back up. Might as well get a better battery at the same time. Some of the buttons are stuck too. Anyone have a touchscreen in their DSM?

Sometimes, the momboard in automotive electronics loves to develop a hairline crack-deep within the board structure since it's mainly a multilayered type and finding that hairline crack is impossible to find.

You might have to switch out the unit for another to cure the issue.

Do your presets reset everytime? if not it's not a ground( if your ground is going out you will lose all your presets)... It sounds like your harness could be bad.

Try to check your remote wire. I had a loose remote wire and the same thing happened. Maybe even check the connection from the wire to the harness, it could be loose inside the harness as well if it isnt at the wires connection.

i had the same problem and it was my attena wire to the back of the deck. if its any sort of loose or has a bad connection it will cut power. or its your remote wire, those are really the only things that will cut power like you describe.

My Pioneer does it, but not as often as it seems your's does. Mine has a connection problem between the faceplate and the unit, so if I use the joystick to change stations or tracks it will kick off the entire system until I press it into the right position. I found that putting something with some thickness over the switch between the faceplate and the unit will help.

I took it to a shop to get my window regulator and motor replaced. I have no idea what they did but it hasn't done it since

I have the same problem, and just last night I had an epiphany. I think that it's my battery terminals touching the engine's hood. I'm going to investigate further tomorrow, but I have had a problem with that in the past. I thought I fixed the problem but maybe under hard acceleration/hard cornering/bumps it's jostling and touching..

I'll report back, and thought I'd just give you that information to ponder. Glad to hear you got yours fixed! Wish you knew what they did

Ya if I could afford it I would rewire the entire car. But I dont. And thanks reef I will ponder on that. Kind of on the same subject as the battery my lights dim when the stereo hits(all stock speakers) and when I'm idling. So I think I will clean up my terminals and grounds under the hood and see if that does anything.
