Well, as the title says, my ball bearing 50 trim should be in by the end of this week.

I guess I just had some questions that maybe you guys could hep me answer...

1. Divided hot side.....as the turbo sits, the hot side is divided. I know when you cut the web out it helps to control boost creep, but will I see any less performance with the web staying in place? Is it worth the effort to cut it out or have it machined out?

2. Water lines....My car has what I know to be, the GVR4 oil filter housing. The silver one with the 2 lines for the water jacket surrounding it. I need some info on how exactly to run my water lines. Do I go through the turbo to the filter housing, vice versa, or something else? I read the post on the 50 trim install, but honestly, i got confused by all the red, blue, green and yellow lines drawn everywhere.

3. Water pipe...I have an DSMparts.com "Evo III" manifold. Do you guys think the turbo will fit without denting the pipe? I know from installing it that it has a thicker flange on the head side than the stock manifold. I only ask because the pipe is painted nice gloss black and I'd hate to chip it all off in the area.

I believe thats about it for now. I'm also kind of curious what kind of numbers I can realistically expect with my setup. I have all the supporting mods, including, FMIC, 255lph, 650's, AFPR etc, etc. Still running the 1g maf. Hoping for around 20psi on pump.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Thanks in advance to anyone that chimes in. I'll throw some pictures up when the turbo gets here and maybe even some install pics. Thanks again guys (and maybe girls)

speaking on experience from my own 50 trim install, I've found that the easiest way to install these would be to find a '90 NT 2.0L DOHC 4g63's coolant hard pipe (it won't have the nipple for the coolant "U" shaped line or the "GVR4" coolant/oil heat exchanger). -See pic.

Combine that with the lower thermostat housing from the same application and you will end up eliminating all coolant line fittings that would normally go to a water cooled turbo and/or the oil/coolant heat exchanger.

Pros: -Less plumbing in an already crampt area, and you get to run a '90 style air/oil cooler vs the coolant/oil cooler setup. better cooling.

Cons: -More $$$ spent on the oil/air cooler & lines

I'm running an actual MHI Evo3 exh man... just a slight dimple on the bottom of the '90 hardline was all I needed to fit my PTE 50 trim.

you REALLY should consider getting a 2g MAS though :D

EDIT: Nevermind... I just noticed the DBB part. -the way I have listed above would work well for a NON-DBB 50 Trim

Well it finally showed up yesterday. This thing is so pretty. Its the first brand new turbo i've ever owned (I'm not counting that GT-K since I only had it for a week or 2). Can't wait to get it on the car, just need to do a 4 layer HG first.

After that I just have to figure out the water lines and maybe change some IC piping. Is it ok to clock this thing upwards like a 16G to work with my existing pipe? Also, the hotside came un-divided. Should I cut the web out of the 02 housing as well, or just leave it alone? Sorry for sounding like such a newb.

Tom's got a good write-up there. From my experience, after about a week or so of driving with this turbo with the Mitsu water lines I heard a faint 'turbocharger whine of death' noise when I was rolling into boost. I got paranoid and installed the PTE water line banjo bolts (larger than the Mitsu ones) and the noise went away.

I ordered my turbo direct from PTE very soon after they introduced them and I was told to retain the no hassle warrenty I would need the water line kit. Other vendors I've talked to say this isn't necessary, but it made my weird noise go away.

The GT-k got sold. I got a really good deal on it in the beginning, and jumped. After thinking about it, i realized it was too big for what i wanted, and i also got offered quite a bit more $$ then i payed for it, so i sold it.
