Please Excuse The Caps/not Wearing Glasses. I Have Ordered Data Logging Equiptment Of Which I Know Nothing.
Also Evo Iii Turbo. I Am Running A Gm Maf In The Blow Through Installation Position. I Have Been Tuning The Translator With My Wideband A/f Meter. I Have Not Gone To The Fine Tuning 2% Changes Because I Will Need The Logging Tools For That. The Tools Come With Instructions And I Have A Lot To Learn! What Is The Main Objective Of The Datalogger And Palm? Is It Running As Much Advance(timing) As Possible With No Knock Detected? Probably As Lean As Possible Also, No Knock? I Should Have The Data Tools By Tuesday And The Turbo By The End Of The Week. That Will Give Me A Week Or So Of Learnng The Logger Tuning Before The Turbo Is Installed. The Car Is A '93 Awd Talon Tsi.
Any Tips Regarding The Datalogging Are Deeply Appreciated. I Have 550cc Inj's, 2.5" Exhaust-no Cats, K & N, Maf & Translator, Wideband And And An Egt Gauge Will Be Installed In The Evo Exhaust Manifold That Is Coming With The Turbo. Thanks, Mark

I have installed 3 of the EVOIII big 16G turbos and all of my customers love them to death. I am sure that will also feel the same. A safe A/F should be 11.0 to 11.5
Where are you placing the EGT probe? Everybody has there opinion of placement but, I would put it on #4&#3 cly. since technicly they are the 2 hottest cly. ;)

I run between 10.5 and 11.0:1 for WOT A/F ratio. Looking foreward to the turbo. Hoping it's enough to keep me happy though. I have 550's and do not intend to buy inj's again soon! Mark

That totally depends on the car and the mods.

Most cars with the SMIC will need to be richer than 11.5:1.

Prove it.

To properly utilize an EvoIII16g, you will need more than 550's.

It's scary to know you are working on other people's cars and you believe that cyl 4 or 3 is the hottest. If you would read around, 95% of people put their egt probes in cyl #1 for a reason. The #1 is the last cylinder on the fuel rail, so if anything is going to be lean it would/could be this cylinder. You could also argue that #2 would be a good place to put the egt probe. I believe the knock sensor is off of cylinder #2; maybe mitsu did this because they believed it would be the leanest. Don't know about that. Either way, you don't want your egt probe in cyl 4 or 3. :thumbdown

Kyle why do you say 550cc inj's are not enough to utilize the EVO to it's potential? As you know I do not know a thing about tuning with data loggers but I will be learning soon! I realize it is better to have a larger injector and "tune it down" however the guy I got the car from had run a 20G on 550's and said Buschur told him that they would be enough! No reason to tell me that because I bought the car with stock injectors. I run 17-17.5 psi since my motor has just over 100k mlkes and will do so with the 16G. If not getting it's full potential has to do with higher boost levels that will have to wait for a fresher motor. If I cannot maintain the 10.5:1 A/F ratio with the 550's then I will have to go to larger injectors. Your stating that I will not be able to utilize the turbo to it's fullest potential has at least let me know it should not dissapoint due to it's flow potential. I thought perhaps a turbo with a 600CFM rating might be better. Mathmatically an injector a bit over 600cc's would mirror the turbo's increase in flow over the stock 14B but that's on paper.
Please share your experience and opinion as to the 550's not being capable of working with the EVO to achieve it's full potential! Thanks, Mark
