I have taken my dash out of my car and am looking at getting a different one. I found one from a 99 oz edition eclipse. Question is as my old one didnt have the cruse panel or the the buttons on the dash i was wondering if i could still put it in and just cover the hole with my old dash pieces? thanks

Why not just find a cruise button? At least that's what I did. There should be a connector when you take your cover off for that and fog lights.

Make sure to switch your vin number badge too, it's illegal not to.

Its actually Illegal to tamper with the vins. If he removes them he can get into serious trouble.

So I am not sure how to go about that one. But I know here in Montana they highly frown upon it. Had a buddy swap vins from an old dash to his new one and got pulled over for speeding and an overly curious cop checked it out.

Some car makers have special rivets that you can not buy and and place that has inspections will check that.

It seems to me that it can't be that illegal to switch out a worn or damaged dash, and retain your vin plate. It's not like the number isn't plastered all over the chassis, engine, and transmission anyways.

It's not tampering, it's repairing.

I aint saying its illegal to swap the dash, but swapping vins may be. We had a dodge pickup at work that we were repairing that had a dash fire. We were swapping dashs and everything and when came time to have the truck inspected we had to scrap the truck according to the DOT/DMV inspector cause the vin plate had been altered.

Maybe this inspector was just a really strict guy, but it was a bad case none the less.

I really don't think you would get in trouble for putting the correct vin on the dash you are putting in your car. As for your question, yes you can put the block off plates for the switches in a bezel with switches. Or you can put the switches in the car and just not plug them in.

An over curious cop might not like the fact of moving the vin badge, but what would be worse, swapping the dash and having the wrong vin...causing more question as for fraud in future sale, or swapping vin plates to retain original number.

Just make sure you swap the plate and you'll be fine.

I know a few people that have swapped the vin plates over and haven't had any issues. Though I myself have not looked into it as far it being illegal or not, I myself am going to go ahead and swap out my dash. If the vin checks out with the rest of the car why would there be any other questions.

i ended up just taking the vin badge out and epoxying the back in and looks perfect.

Why didn't you just tap the rivets out from the underside of the dash while the dash was out and tap the correct plate back on the dash you used before you put it back in?

Yes, you can even swap the actual non-cruise button into the black bezel so it all matches. You should also swap the wiring harness, it's super easy to disconnect and easier to do it in the first place than get the new dash in and find out some stuff doesn't work.

Just swap the vin plates and use a rivet gun to put the new plate on. I did this to mine as its better to have the correct vi on your dash than one which doesn't match the car. They won't know if you swapped the dash color. I am 5 minutes from you and have a rivet gun with rivets.

I had the dash out and pushed the rivets from the back side. So i had the plate and the rivets so i moved to the new dash and the guy before me took his time and just drilled them out. So i placed the badge in there and put some epoxy on the back side and clamped it down looks like i never touched it and its not going anywhere.

Yea when i had both dashes out i just swapped the wire harness just in case. And i didnt have the crusie panel so i threw my old grey one in there for the time Being :thumb:

But i do have another question and instead of creating a new thread.... Im swapping from manual to automatic windows and i have all the stuff to do it. So i got the old manual bracket out and put the automatic bracket in. I then worked the rubber boot that goes to the door. This is when i saw that my two speaker wires go straight into the plastic plug. Now on my new door wire harness the speaker wire goes straight into the the male end. So the question is how do i remove the speaker wire that goes into the female end in my car, so i can then put the new plug in? Any help would be much appreciated!!!!!
