Ok everybody,
I have a big problem. I recently replaced my alternator with a 97 galant 90 amp as well as a brand new interstate battery three days ago. Now my dash and headlights dim and fluctuate quite alot. However, the weird thing is that all of my aftermarket guages dont fluctuate at all. My aftermarket guages are the only thing that remains constant. I am also runing a dvd and stereo system in my vehicle. I do have a 100 farad capacitor in there as well.:confused::confused: My voltages are jumping from around 13.8-15.3 quite alot but my battery reads exactly 12.4 volts with the car off. Does any of this sound fimiliar to anyone??

I don't think you have a 100 farad capacitor in your car, that would be a little unnecessary.

Sounds like a bad alternator in my opinion, dont quote me on that but when my alternator was going out my gauges would bog and shut off completly at one point. And my voltage was fluctuating from 11.4-14.4 Get it checked out..

My third alternator did the same thing. It was overcharging apparently then one day went out (symptoms very similar to yours). Replaced for free with the lifetime warranty program they offered me. 4th alternator been working great ever since.

I didn't ask what you think about my cap/audio battery but thanks for your uneeded input. Kinetik HC600 850 amps, High Current Car Audio Power Cell Battery = to 100 1farad capacitors. :boring::tease:

What happened was the Alternator had a bad internal regulator. The reason all of my aftermarket gauges were not pulsating is because they were led's and they will not dim only if you wire a dimmer in. So that being said we can mark this as resolved. Thanks to those of you that replied with info I needed.

On a side note- for those of you that only post non related info it really is unappreciated. If you were in a bind and trying to figure out what was wrong with your car engine for example. Would you really want me to post how I dont think your tires are wide enough????????? Think about it the next time you need help. However, Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all. :hellyeah::)

You nailed it. Please read my other post just in case you have aftermarket led gauges.

a alternator rated @ 90amps really means max output @90 amps, which at idle it should produce about 60-70amps. it just seems to me that this will not be enough for all your electricals as stock, specially with a sound system, test it to see how much its generating, if its too low it will eat up your battery really quick!

AMPS are not the problem with our cars. Its the crappy voltage regulator we have. Once my car warms up, the darn thing won't generate more than 13.5v's. The only true fix for this is to swap to a saturn alternator or drive around with your alternator plug out.
