Ok guys i have a few questions. I am looking to start doing some serious mods to my car.

Plans for the car are this.

Make a solid 500 awhp.
Drive the car daily. And when i mean daily i mean everyday. Even taking the car on a 250 mile round trip every other weekend.

Keeping a/c and all accessories.

I also take the car to the track maybe twice a month. I know things break but its not the breaking im worried about.

Basically if i build this car for my goals what are the chances that it would be even decent enough to drive everyday.

I've been reading alot of info and from what i can tell i should be able to reach my goals and still have the car tame enough to drive daily without it bucking me like a mule.

I plan to run a hx40 with supporting mods on a ross/eagle bottom end tuned with link.

For instance. I don't want to have to get in the car and warm it up for 20 minutes just so i can drive it. Little things of that nature that make the car more annoying than fun to drive.

The turbo you choose to get 500 horse to the wheels on a daily will most likely be laggy as hell. That itself is worse than waiting 20 minutes for the car to warm up. You will probably need some cams and some stiff motor mounts, along with a balance shaft elimination, Which will make it shake like a french soldier. If it is not comfort you are going for when you say daily driver, It wont much matter. To have that much power usually means the low end isnt all that good. Which sucks when driving around town. Just my opinion, I am sure i am wrong.

This is definitely doable if you have the cash and breaking things really isn't a concern as you stated.

Cams, stiffer motor mounts, and balance shaft elimination are not going to prevent him from having a good daily driver. With proper tuning, a HKS 272/272 combo is very streetable and will get him to his power goals. Stiffer mounts are a must if you are going to be tracking the car and everyone of my friends that have a DSM also have them on all our street cars. Sure it will vibrate more but its much better than your motor flopping around all over the place from busted up stock mounts. Balance shaft elimination is a non-issue, the change in vibration in some motors is so minimal that you might not even notice...definitely do this.

An HX40 is overkill for your goals and is going to result in unneeded lag. An HX35 is what you want...it will get you to your horsepower goal and the spool is much better for a street car.

if everything is done well and professionally, no shortcuts etc, if you dont beat on the car, it really should be daily driveable, just depends how bad u get on the car and how often

I don't really drive the car too hard on the street. I also take care of my stuff and keep maintenance in check.
As far as the turbo. I am looking to go with the hx40 due to possible future upgrades.
I know the hx35 will do what i want but its getting close to the turbos limits.

At any rate this isn't a (what parts should i use)
Just a simple is it doable.

So far things look to be doable i just need to take my time and research things thouroughly. Thank you for the advice.

How daily drivable something is, is just a matter of personal preference. Some of us have much higher comfort thresholds than others.

Almost anything you do to your car from a serious performance standpoint is going to require a compromise in comfort. You just have to decide if it's worth it for your goals.

I do want to add this...keeping all the smog equipment, accessories, AC, etc., makes it a major pain in the ass to work on the car unless you're doing something simple.

This is correct. I dd my 2g with over 500whp to the wheels and drive it everyday. I even take in on trips. I dont beat on my car but I do tend to get on it every once in a while just to put a smile on my face. If you choose the right turbo the lag will not matter much. It all depends on your mods and such. I say do it and enjoy yourself. Mine has been very reliable but you have to consider, my motor and trans has been completly redone. BTW I still have to have the comforts of a/c and power steering and brakes. In this houston weather a/c is a MUST! Hope this helps.

I have just over 400 whp and i daily drive it to college everyday. (100miles round trip) and I deliver for papa johns! haha

i run a 60-1. and sure its laggy. but it stills drives around town great.

30psi is around 5k or so. but you wont notice it, unless you need to race people from light to light. (ie: minivans, old people, etc)

you dont need to be hitting boost to get going up to speed fast. idk why people think that.
