cyclone engine prone to Crank walk?

just wondering, does anyone know if the cyclone engine is phrone to crankwalk just as much as a 95-97 7-bolt motor.
 
If you guys track everything down all cars are prone to crankwalk just especially 2G DSMs which is BTW estimated 10% so its NOT that high...

Now moving on to JDM 4g63... I have heard reports of EVO IV engines receiving crankwalk.... thats about all I have heard.... If that helps you any...
 
thanks guys, i really had to think if they did or not since the 6-bolts found in 1ga's were less likly than 2g's. Thanks for the replies!

if you think about it 10% of all engines produced, failing catastrophically, IS ridiculously high

i can get u about a billion more references to 6 bolt JDM 4g63 motors...

well it really depends if he is talking about Galant VR-4 motors that yes they came with a 6-bolt or a 7-bolt just like in the USA

if he is talking about an EVO motor than they only came in 7-bolts. I trust RoadRace Engineering over Ebay anyday:rolleyes:

EVO Motors: The valve covers of the EVO 1-3 motors will be a kind of titanium color. They are the same as a US 2G motor with nothing fancy. They have the smaller 2G style intake ports, a small runner intake manifold with a larger plenum and a larger throttle body than a 2G motor. Still they are hard to find. Many are from other 4G63 powered cars and can have small 13G sized turbos. They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolt to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission 2G Eclipse style. Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor

I agree. Let's say that for instance 500,000 2Gs are running around right now. If 10% of the engine's came down with crankwalk, that would be 50,000 engines!

(500,000 * .10 == 50,000)
 
all evo motors are 7 bolt.

no dsm motor is free from getting it. 2g motor could get it, but chances are slim.

1g motor chances are very very slim, but it could happen. it can happen to any motor.
 
My appologies,

Did not mean to say that NO JDM 4g63 is 7 bolt. I was commenting on the fact that 98% of what people buy and intall in their DSMs are the Galant VR-4 motors which are indeed 6 bolt (commonly called Cyclone)... but they fit directly in, ie built for DSM platform.

I have been trying to find a EvoIII motor for my DSM for a while but they are nearly imposible to find as you have to specify that is the motor you want and then they put you on a VERY LONG waiting list :( and these motors were not built for the DSM platform.

So, if indeed any of you do get your hands on a very rare EvoIII motor in good shape that you are not gonna be usin... let me know

:p I'll be more than happy to take it off ur hands ;)
 
Any engine can crankwalk. If it has a thrust bearing and it can fail, it can get crankwalk.

Crankwalk. Overrated and misunderstood. Worry about asteroids hitting or something else. :rolleyes:

BTW: My 90 6 bolt walked. My 95 at 130K is still in specs. ;)
