CXracing Radiator plus shroud

I've heard good things about the radiators. I don't have any first hand experience with them though.

I have it, its the best bang for your buck radiator available. I think its a quality piece and would recommend it to others. As far as like "oh ya this thing lowered temps by 5 degrees" I don't know. Maybe someone else can chime in on that. I simply bought it because my stock radiator was in rough condition and this is an upgrade.

Don't get it. It will sell your babies and eat your soul!!!! Maybe it's the other way around.

What? well erm... yeah what you said!:thumb:

But seriously.
What did you guys think of the welds ?
were they solid?
Did the fan clips plug right into the OEM harness ?

As long as it holds water, keeps my engine fresh and does NOT require any electrical modding im sold.

Punishment radiators come in a CX box...soooo....

I'm running one. The fans aren't very good, but even with the fans being questionable, I'm seeing a 8* drop (rough average) versus the stocker and some slim fans.

why would you put shroud on the back of radiator? i mean, it is blocking the airflow isn't it?

The welds looked prettty stout when I put it in..as far as the fans they just give you these radiator ziptie things; and the fans are NOT plug and play, you have to hardwire them in..I think there is a thread on that somewhere on the forum

Are you running it with the shroud as well Kris?

Yep.

I should mention that the 2 issues I have dealt with include "shaping" the corners of where the rad mounts near the headlights due to the THICK welds, and not being able to use 1 of the four bolts from fan to shroud (slightly bent bracket).

Otherwise, I'm happy.

If you closed off the entire back, yeah. ;)

Sounds like a good deal then.
The radiator i have right now is in terrible shape.

When i had bought my gst it came with some super jacked up ghetto intercooler piping and a 97 dodge avenger a/c fan.

The fan was embedded in the radiator fins and grinding when it turned on .
It had coupling clamps wedged into the fins, it had piping forced into place and duct tape completely engulfed a quarter of the poor radiator.
So yeah anything is better than what i have right now . LOL

But my last questions are ...Do i need an additional radiator/cooler for my transmission?
Because my gst is automatic (which sucks) and have read somewhere that i would have to?

aww it feels so vulnerable when anything is hardwired.
i guess I'll have to plan a trip to Radioshack .
Might as well get started on a switch and gauge cluster too...
But yeah, i guess its a little gamble then when dealing with the quality of the welds if im correct.
thanks for the feedback fellas i think im sold. hopefully i get a good one.

Cut the pugs off your stockers, wire them to your new fans. Bam. ;)

It's two wires, don't try to make it sound so complicated.

Here you go (minus the shroud): http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/283272-punishment-racing-aluminum-radiator-w-slim-fans-5.html#post152141707

Lol i know right?

do you know off the top of your head what is ground on the fan plug? or just how i'd wire it?

okay i see wire em' both up to one clip. so simple!:ohdamn:

I see they have a red and a green wire, I would say the green is most likely the ground and red is power. I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to be wired either though either.

:banghead:

A shrouded fan is gonna pull/push air in more of a straight line. Shrouded fans flow more air... just trust me.

That's debatable. When I got my kit, I opted not to go with the shroud.

Shrouds are great, as long as there is enough surface area on the radiator and enough depth to make them efficient. And you have to think about how the air flows as well (like water, air likes to follow curved surfaces; sharp bends will cause turbulence and actually hinder the flow in some cases).

In the limited space of our DSM's, I'm not convinced that shrouds are necessary, and my gut feeling is that they may even hurt cooling at least in some cases. I think it's more important to seal the shrouds on the fans themselves, and keep engine heat down in the first place with proper heat shielding and by wrapping/coating hot parts.

Straight fins and good flow through the IC, A/C, and radiator coils is also a must (along with proper baffling), and is often overlooked for some reason.

I have the exact same setup. The shroud wouldnt fit with my Punishment FMIC due to the outlet pipe not clearing the fan on the AC side. Also, the fans didnt cool my car well but I have AC, so air getting through the fmic, ac condensor, and finally through the radiator may have been an issue since these fans dont flow much (I have the rad, ac condensor and fmic sealed of so that the air HAS to go through them, I verfied this by putting a piece of paper on the fmic on both the right and left sides while the fans were running and the paper held) and then the fans burned up, even though I only hooked them up via the factory plugs off of the factory fans, so I ended up switching to just one stock fan and never tried the AC after that. Anyone else have issues with the fans??

well i bought the package and it came out to 295.48$ was it worth it?
and is this gonna work with my automatic setup? lemme know wisemen!

great radiator for the $ currently have a fluidyne but feel its too thick and bulky. just because its sold on ebay doesnt mean it aint quality product

Alright well i should get it tomorrow ordered it friday.
I have a Gst A/T . will this work fine with it?
or do i need modification?

Bought one for my WRX. My temps during daily drives by 10-20 degrees. Going to be purchasing one again for sure for my Talon. One word of advice though, replace the POS plastic peticock with a metal one from autozone.
