Hey there, im pretty new to the whole DSM world and i searched questions on this topic and im still not sure of the answer. im wondering what the difference is if you went and had a custom 3" catback made for a 99 GST and just put a muffler on it like a HKS or Apexi would there be in a difference between the two in sound, power, and throttle response?

If youve got deep pockets go with a greddy or apexi n1 full exhaust system. You will never be happier with an exhaust. Otherwise just have a muffler shop bend u one up and order an apexi n1 muffler.

Mandrel bending vs. press bending, difference in materials, whether or not your custom exhaust includes resonators and the angle and number of bends. Apart from these things, an exhaust is an exhaust.

thanks for the help! i think im just gonna stick with a greddy... that way i know it will work and will be alot easier!

Just to throw it out there the old A'pexi n1 I had on my DSM was super sexy and sounded like Tony the Tiger.... (If you missed that one... ITS GGGGGGREATT! haha had to do it just ate some Frosted Flakes from the DFAC in Afghanistan :p)

mandrel bent> crush bent

I bought exhaust systems for my 2g. Sure it sounds great.

For my 1g im going down the custom route. I dont want any resenators, just 3 inch piping all the way back with a vibrant dual tip to make it look stock. I wish I went that route with my 2g.

In my opinion its a waste of money. My exhaust is going to sound really good, and it will cost less then 500 for it all. If you look at all the guys on here making big power (600up) they dont have name brand exhaust on their cars. Its all custom.

As stated it depends on the amount of money you want to spend. Personally I can't see myself spending that much money on an exhaust. Name brand companies charge A LOT in my opinion. I could use the money else where. What I did was buy an ebay cat back and customized it to my liking, I took out the resonators, put in a test pipe, and got a 3" dp from a buddie. Whole thing cost me about $350, and it sounds great, and still holding up for 2+ years daily driven. It's all on how much you want/have to spend.

If you are going to buy an exhaust for that much than get something better, Thermal R&D perhaps?
