I am drawing up plans and taking basic measurements to start working on a stainless steel "air box" so once I redo the intercooler setup and piping I can encase the filter in this box and have it ducted to pickup air from the fender well on the passenger side. But I don't want to make any restriction, I know I know that depends on how much air I'm trying to suck though it. Roughly 38-40 lb/min tops. As a point of reference I'm trying to find out what the factory or particular aftermarket filter elements surface area are as a starting point to make sure I have at LEAST that much but have no idea where to find this information. A very quick search on the web yeilded no useful data.

Anyone know of it or willing to go outside with a tape measure and give me the filter element area?

That's more than I had. I'll see if i can find the Evo's dimensions, thanks!

*EDIT*
Excellent! they did 2008 Evo basically getting 10 1/2 x 7 1/2" seems every filter manufacture is a little different.
Sooo rough area would be approximately 30" (1G) vs 36" for the Evo. I think I have JUST enough room behinde the headlight area to accommodate that. The extremely rough measurements I took earlier gave a useable area of about 10.5x6.25x15 being slightly conservative. I think I can find a factory filter that would fit in the box....hole in the fender well wall's going to need to grow some though.
