8/10/07 Edit: This thread is kind of old and as a result, some of the links and pictures are no longer present. I'm doing my best to re-establish some of the links to the original pictures. But I won't be able to fix everything as some of the photos and links no longer exist.

A while back I found this thread where someone posted the pics below. I know a lot of people were interested in the lip, but since it was made in Spain, shipping costs from Europe were over $300.00 (including the lip) and made it impossible to get it at a reasonable price. The thread died and later was closed.

As mentioned in the thread, the lip is an OEM option for the Seat Leon Cupra R year model '99 - '05. I did a bit of research on google, and found out that this same lip fits perfectly for the VW Golf R32s. So obviously they're all over it in the VW Vortex formus.

There is a company called Dynamic Motorworks in New York selling the lips for the R32. I gave them a call and ordered mine over a month ago. Since they were sold out, I had to wait about 3 weeks for the next shipment. I paid $115.00 shipped to my door. The lip itself was only $89.00. (Edit: As of Aug 10th '07, it's only $75.00)

I got the lip a few days later after the shipment arrived in NY. The lip arrived wrapped with lots of bubble wrap. There was no box or anything. Just the lip wrapped in bubble wrap. Since the lip is made of plastic, it's very flexible and there was no damage to it. I guess not putting it in a box minimizes shipping costs.

Upon inspection I took it over to the parkin lot where my 2g is and just placed it underneath the front bumper. The 2 little plastics pieces in the center of the lip need to be trimmed. Another thing I noticed is that the bumper is wider than the lip. So the outer edges of the lip need to be pulled outwards just a bit in order to make it fit perfectly. Again, because the lip is made of plastic, it's very flexible and pulling the outer edges doesn't affect the lips form too bad.

Unfortunately, the previous owner of my gst severely damaged the bottom of the bumper and installing the lip like that is out of the question. Eventually I will be ordering a new one. In the mean time I will have to put this project on hold. I already did bit of spending in performance mods which left me with limited funds and unable to afford the new bumper at this time.

I wanted to wait to post this until after I installed mine so that I could do a full review with pics. But since it's going to be a while for that, I thought some of you might be interested in it. If you decide you want it, all the info on how to get it is at the bottom of this post. Just be aware that the lip is guaranteed to fit the R32 Golf only. From what I've noticed so far, some trimming to the lip, and perhaps the bumper too, will be required. You can not purchase it online (Now you can). You have to call them and place the order by phone. Just make sure you let them know you want the cupra r lip for the R32.

Damn this post is getting long. Sorry about that. One last thing, Dynamic Motorworks is working in getting the carbon fiber version of this lip. Since the lip needs to be flexible to make it fit on a 2G, I'm not sure if the cf will work.

Miguel.

I don't like non stock stuff AT ALL. But I have to say I liked that since the Spain post. Good investigative work man :thumb: . That and the eclipse/talon hybrid bumper post are badass

I really like the way that looks...low profile and all. Definitely good work on the research and gamble on fitment. :thumb:

thats sweet, as soon as i have some money to spend im gonna order one. Ive wanted one since i saw that spain post.

does it come with installation bolts and such, because i dont see any places that you can mount the damn thing like the rmdsm lip, but looks very good on the car, and ill definitely get one if this turns out to be legit, nice research :thumb:

wow i like it alot better than the rmdsm lip.

i might order one in a month or two.

No, it doesn't come with installation hardware. But with a little creativity, anything is possible. And again, just want to remind you that this lip was never designed for our cars. So don't expect any technical support of such from the company that sells them. They probably don't even know it fits on our cars. They will know soon though. :D

RR,

The lip on your bumper looks like solid plastic, while the carpet pic looks like CF or immitation CF - any details on options? Or does yours look like the one on the carpet and I just can't tell?

Looks very cool btw!

-Stu

thats not his bumper that the lip is sitting on, that is a picture of somebody that has had the cupra lip installed over in spain i believe, he said that his bumper is damaged beyond the point where he can install his, and for the cf on the carpet, he said they are in the process of developing a carbon fiber one but due to the fact that the lip has to be modified and bent just a tad, the plastic one would probably work much better, I wish somebody would buy and put this thing on and post pics so i could buy one ;)

Chadillac is correct. The red bumper is not mine. My car, as you can see in the sig, is white. As for the cf one in the carpet, that's just a picture someone posted at the vw vortex formus. I'm going to try to install the lip on my car even though my bumper is damaged pretty bad. I'll have a couple of days off on wednesday/thursday and see what can be done. If I can, I'll take pics and see what I come up with.

Nice find! I've wanted this ever since I saw the original post. I'll probably order one soon and install it in the spring after I get my car painted.

yeah hurry up and get some pics because im definitely ordering mine as seen as i see the pictures and see how you got yours mocked up, ive been following that thread from the beginning

Well, I was a bit bored and had a roll of tape laying around and said to myself "what the heck." I went downstairs, put the car on the ramps and taped the lip to the bumper. I just wanted to see what it looked like on. Obviously, I'm not going to leave it like that on the car. I just wanted to see the fitment on the bumper. I went ahead and trimmed the two center plastic pieces in the lip. About 1/2", but it looks like it might need just a bit more of trimming. I didn't want to trim any more until I get the new bumper.

Looking at picture #2, you can see why I need a new bumper. You can also see in those pics how much you have to pull the lip outwards about an inch or a bit more. You can also noticed that because I was using tape only, I couldn't position the lip farther forward which obviously needs to be. Anyways, I was playing around with it for about 10 minutes to see what kind of work I was up to once I get the new bumper. I didn't have time to take more pics as I need to work soon after.

On my days off I'm going to go to home depot and get some bolts, nuts, washer, etc. and see if I can do a better job on the damaged bumper. I suck at this  but then a again, it was just a quick test fit.

Before I get flamed for the ghetto job, I did not leave the lip on the car like that. I snapped a few pictures and then took it off and put it away.

Looks pretty cool. I personally would have just spent the money & bought a CF lip. They sell them on eBay & others.

But the look is still cool.

that looks badass, im so close to ordering one, and maybe making a tech article on fitting it up, may give them a call sometime this week, so the lip easily stretches out to fit the sides? cause in the pic i see what your talking about as they are about an inch from being a perfect fit

Yes, it stretches pretty easily. But it would be so much easier to fit if my bumper was in good shape. Either way, I just went to home depot and bought some bolts, nuts, and washers. I just need to drill the holes in the lip and then place it and center it correctly to drill the other holes in the bumper. I get off of work tomorrow at 2:30pm and I'm going to attempt to install it as soon as I get home and see if I can get it to look the way the red bumper has it.

so whatst he del, have to call them to get it? they dont have a website??

i want to buy the carbon fiber lip...

They do have a website but it's under construction. Yes, you have to call them to place the order. And they don't have the carbon fiber one yet. Even if they did, the cf is not going to fit and since it can not be stretched like the plastic one, I don't think it's going to work.

I went ahead and decided to put the lip on the f***ed up bumper. Here's how it turned out.

That look's real tight !! :thumb:

Did you alter the shape of the lip in any way ? Any cutting/working on it required to get a look like this ?

If you take a closer look at the lip, you'll notice there are a couple of plastic pieces sticking up on the center of the lip (look at the picture below). Those have to be trimmed. I trimmed mine too much (more than the pict shows) but you can't tell because the lip is so low. I then drilled a hole on each of the the tabs through out the lip. Those tabs have little steps which I removed to make sure the surface meeting the bottom of the bumper was as flat as possible (see picture below). In the outer areas I used bolts, nuts, and washers to attatch to the bumper. Closer to the center, there is some sort of metal support bracket at the bottom of the bumper. Just below the radiator. Since it was kind of hard to get in there to put the nuts on the bolts, I decided to used small screws that grabbed on to this piece of metal. The outer ends of the lip need to be pulled outwards about an inch or so to make it fit the way it shows on the pics. I think the install can be done much better with a little more patience. I didn't have all the tools I wish I had and I was rushing it towards the end. It was starting to get dark and I wanted to finish it that night (yesterday). Over all I think it was a simple install. The hardest part, if you can call it that, was preping the lip for installation with the trimming and drilling, and positioning the lip on the right place to mark the drill targets on the bumper.

After the install I took the car for a ride to get it washed. When I got to the car wash I kind of had to get in there quickly because of oncoming traffic. The lip hit the ramp quite hard and I was expecting the worse. But because the lip is so flexible, nothing happened to it. Had this been a carbon fiber lip, it would have been destroyed.

I'm very pleased with the look of the lip. The only thing I'm not too happy about is that when you look at the car from far away, the lip being black, disapears in the car's shadow. I'm actually going to get it painted to match the car's color. If I don't like it, I can always paint it black again.

I couldn't take any pictures of the lip installed from underneath because the car is too low and my piece of shit camera could not focus on the lip from such a close distance. The pictures looked very blurry. The only pictures I took were the ones after the install (above) and some before the install (below). I hope that helps.
