Creaking noise

I brought my car into the dealer thinking it was the ball joint. They will do it for free if it was the joint, but they told me it was my upper control arm. Has anyone else had the "NOISE" come from there left front upper control arm? Where can I get a new one? How much? I am going to put the TEIN FLEX suspension on next week. Should I do it all at once meaning the control arm and the suspension. Also should I do both upper control arms on the front of the car?

ok I have had similar symptoms in my 95 gst, ive had this problem for a while... so I took the wheel off and took a look. I noticed that on one of the ball joints that the lower control arm connects to was ripped.. well the cover or whatever that rubber thing is on the ball joint was ripped and some grease was leaking out.. is this what u guys were talkin about? So do i need to replace my lower control arm and ball joints? is this what is covered by recall? and how dangerous is this? thanks for any info guys.

Yeah that is what it is. You can get the controll arm at the dealer for mot to much money and it is easy to replace. Good luck

damn dealer said its already been done on my car... so I guess i have to buy the part and do it myself.. you guys said it was an easy job so i guess i will attempt it this weekend if i have time. Are any special tools needed for this job, i just got the basic set of tools. I think the manual says i have to measure the pressure on the bolt with some kind of wrench when i put the thing back on.. other than that it doesn't say that i would need anything else other than regular tools. also since you guys seem to have done this so quick, are there any tricks i should know of or mistakes i should watch out for? Any help to make my life easier would be appreciated. thanks!

upon closer inspection i noticed that the balljoint thats busted is not on the lower lateral control arm but on the lower compression arm. I called the dealership and they said it costs $206 for the part.. does this sound normal to you guys?

Yeah that sounds about right on the price, I had to replace mine, but the guy who did it for me found a used one for like $60, so that made it much better. Good Luck

Just trying to get a little info here: here's what I'm looking at... i had the recall done about 3-4 mos ago. About 2 mos ago I hit a right side curb backwards with both the frt/rear tires simultaneously at about 80mph ( long sick story ). Since then I too am getting this horrible creak, but from a couple different places on the right side. I'm a cheap bastard. My car has 134k miles and is still on the stock shocks and springs ( but they WILL be replaced within a couple months ). Does you guys think/ has anyone had the shocks/springs be bad enough to do all this squeaking? I'm definitely gonna upgrade the shocks/springs but I'm kinda wondering if in the meantime I should bother to look into other possibilities. Secondly, I guess I'm gonna go with the KYB AGX's. I was gonna pair the Eibach prokits up with that but then I saw the H&R OE sport springs ( obviously I'm not looking for a lot of drop, just want to take some space out of the fenderwell ). Just wondering if any of ya have any experience with the h&r's. Sorry for the long post. It's 4am, I'm standing watch, and bored as hell.

i did that same thing too once, except at 30 in a bronco 2 , but i cracked my spindle and knuckle on the control assemby, i would take it all off and look at it, mine was bent like 45 degrees and was making the noise you described, i dont know how expensive it is on a dsm but for my bronco i paid just under 600 to get it fixed, thats with new parts and me doing the install, took just under 3 hours too. id recommend looking at the supports before checking your struts/shocks, cuz normally they can handle such an impact. just my 2 cents though, pm me if you believe me or have more questions. audios

I wish I found this post before today. I have had my 95 TSi for about 6 months and have experienced the creaking noises you guys are talking about. However I couldnt think of a word for it and called it a "grinding/squeaking" noise. So for the last few months when Ive been searching on this website I couldnt find anywhere explaining what may be wrong with my car. I hear these creaking noises while slowing down, turning, and going over bumps. Ive changed the struts thinking that was the problem and after consulting with friends and my bf I finally gave up on the situation. When I got my car inspected they didnt say anything about it. So that brings me to why Im posting... Today while on my way home from the college bookstore (school starts in a week) My car loses control and i find myself on the opposite side of the road with my bumper to the ground. My ball joint snapped. Not only do I need a new bumper, fender, ball joint, and anything else that may be wrong (my car was towed to a garage and locked up before I can even look at it). But the dumbass tow truck driver took my AWD TALON on the tow truck! Now, Im only a girl but i was concerned about this issue. And I mentioned I think my car should be put on a flat bed but the driver insisted my car will be fine. So here I am wondering what other damages could be wrong with my car. IF anyone can give me some help it would be greatly appreicated. I also want people to learn from me lesson and get it fixed. I wouldnt take the easy way out by greasin things up to get rid of the noise.
