Hello there.. was a newbie dsmer .. I had my Talon TSi for a month before I crashed into another car in the oncoming lane (lost control of my car) I have front subframe damage and I am trying to determine whether its repairable or if I should sell it. I appreciate any opinions, I loved this car and I really want to drive it again. How much is it going to cost me to get my car back? I am attaching photos, thankyou

Thanks for your input everyone, it was raining and I started to slide around a slight bend going 80 kmh out in the back roads, tried to countersteer and ended in the other lane, noone had a scratch though we were very lucky. Would a tubular subframe replacement be safe for street driving? I'm in some money troubles right now and might just sell the car as a whole.
 
If you have a parking spot for that, I would get another one. Working or not. A broken down one might be had for $500. Tow the new one to the driveway and swap over anything the new clunker needs.

Nice parts car. Even the Intercooler looks like it could be useable. But much of the car is fine. I mean, the trans is probably fine. Those things are expensive.

And if the clunker has a running engine, you could begin rebuilding that orange top engine with better racing parts. Would be a fun hobby. Engines are not complicated, and you can rent a hoist. Buy a dremel and start porting.

You are looking at this the wrong way IMO, because you are upset. But this is a huge opportunity.

The biggest obstacle is a place to park the parts car. I don't have that luxury.
 
I live in an apartment building and have no driveway, the car is at my brothers but his wife wants it gone in a week, I really wish I could keep it and just sit in it every once in a while LOL !
 
Yikes! Well, the car looked like it was clean before the accident but unfortunately it looks like its toast now. The best thing you could do is try to get a estimator from a local body shop to come out and give you a good idea of what it might cost to repair it, if they even can.

If you want to have a DSM again I think the best thing you could do, keeping things cost effective, would be to buy a 2g shell and swap everything over from your totaled DSM.

I'm with this guy on having someone give you an estimate. I wrecked my first gst pretty much the same way, front cross member was destroyed. So new hood, from strut tower to strut tower pretty much from another car, new radiator, new j pipe, new turbo, new front mount you could barely tell that it was crashed other then the shattered fusebox. You will have to pull the motor and everything though. If you love the car and have the money I think it is fixable, if you want the easiest way to do it swap shells.
 
Thats more than subframe damage man. The frame rail is bent completely outward, you could prob have it straightened, but it like mentioned before it will never be the same, the alignment of everything on that side of the car will be off and make the car drive funny. No worth what it would cost to fix it.
 
i have had nearly 200 cars in my life and i can only think about the ones i miss LOL just make it a labor of love make i a tubular front end
 
I went to a collision repair technical institute awhile back and saw some messes like this.
I can tell you right now that the main frame rail on your left side would be cut off and a new one would be put in place. Some shops may try bending it back into place and install reinforcement brackets as well, but that tends to not happen as often.

Something you may want to look at before potentially wasting your time bringing some photos into a body shop would be to look at your drivers door and see if the gap is the same as the gap on the passenger door. This will help to determine if you have crumpled that left side behind the strut tower.

Try putting your wheels straight and measuring from the inside lip if your rims to the front of your doors. If your drivers side comes up too short you are probably better off using this as a donor car.

With what I can see, this looks fixable. Getting your car on the frame rack and all setup generally takes about 2 hours, lining everything up again will vary anywhere from 5 to 15 hours. My favorite body shop in my area (also the most expensive) charges $60 an hour on the frame rack. I'm sure they will want to replace the core support.

Sourcing body parts from junk yards and installing them yourself will be much cheaper than having a shop do it for you. Try finding that factory orange color the 2g came in, maybe it will match up well enough?
