Alright, third post in a row. Sorry if I should have made one thread titled "The f*ckfest that is my 2g" I thougt I would get better help this way.

Anyways, when I talked to my mechanic today he said that when he spins my crank by hand it feels like it is getting stuck up top and at the bottom. At first he thought maybe the pistons were barely touching the plugs, but when he pulled the plugs it was still the same. Plus that doens't exlplain why it's the same at the bottom of the stroke.

It spins freely by the starter, so should I even be worried. Is this normal? I just mainly want to set my mind and his at ease. It's a reman. from Karking by the way. Thanks, Craig

Id say as long as you have it timed right were the valves aren't coming in contact with the pistons, then it should be fine. When i installed my new head and timing belt i couldn't really turn the crankshaft easily by hand but it turned fine with a ratchet.

Your mechanic thought your piston was hitting your spark plug??!?

I wondered the same thing??? It's a new engine that has never fired due to a no spark issue. That is why it's at the shop.

I am pretty sure he meant that he was using a ratchet.

When you say "getting stuck up top and bottom"....you (or your mechanic) knows that the 4G63 has 2 pistons that would be TDC while the other 2 are BDC...so you are actually either hitting/scraping/dragging something at the far end of piston travel. Of course spinning by hand is not as traumatic as when the motor is running.

Then again, it could just be new rings hitting the "bump" of an uncleaned cylinder wall where the old rings stopped.

Either way, I personally would have to take a closer look before I trusted the motor.

Yes, I did realize that but never thought of it that way.

What do I need to check?

Take a look at the piston oil squirters.

The oil squirters have been removed.

Drop some oil into each cylinder and see if it turns any easier that way. Have you personally spun the crank yourself to know how it feels? If not do that first to get a feel for where it's sticking and then pour some oil in to see if it makes a difference.

It is sticking at atdc and btdc, as if it were on the up stoke of each set of pistons. The car has is full of oil. I went to check it out yesterday, it doesn't want to move at the mentioned points. Won't even budge. The strange thing is that is has no issues cranking by key. I would have been scared to do that even if I hadn't cranked it by key so many times already.

I will be so mad if Karking did something assembled something wrong. The engine was under warranty, but that was only for 6 months. It took me longer to get her back together. I added tons of new parts and took my time.
