I have just started my stock rebuild. Already ran into a problem. The crank will not turn once all the bolts are torqued (18 lbs with 1/4 turn). If While i tighten the bolts and my helper turns the crank and doesnt stop, then it is okay. Once the person stops spinning it, we cannot get it to spin right again. Things I know that are right and double checked are:

- Bearings

-Block

-Crank caps

-Pistons and rods spin fine without bolting down the crank.

-I also had the crank polished and it is the right crank

If anyone could please help it would be amazing

Did you plastigage everything and follow all clearances?

I bet you have the caps on the wrong way. The arrows should be pointed to the timing side of block with the "f" cap being closeset to the timing side and "r" being towards the main seal. With BOTH arrows pointing towards the timing side.

If the clearances are way too tight it will not spin. Check with plastigage and report back. Make sure the main caps are on correctly as well, they are supposed to only go on one way as bettfootball said. Also are you using any kind of assembly lube?

That is the exact way i have them set up. Clearances being off means that it will need to be align honed. correct?

Not exactly. You may just have the wrong bearings. Could be a manufacturing defect in the bearings, vendor could've sent the wrong size, etc..

You say the caps are all facing the correct way, with arrows towards the timing belt side, but are they in the right order?

Did you put lube on the back of the bearing before you installed it in the block? If you did, that will cause a crank to lock up.
