Hey, guys I need help. A few days ago I started hearing knocks coming from my engine around 3k RPMs and wasn't sure why it's doing that. So, I left the car sitting in the garage for two days without driving it. And yesterday when I took it out and drove it to the store, about 5 miles down the road the car died on me.

When it died, it sounded to me like my timing belt snapped and was making a lot of noises. I had my cousin started the car while I had the hood open to see what's going on. Belt and everything else is fine but the engine sounds like a mess. The engine will crank over and start, but it sounds like one of the pistons is either broken or something inside of it is broken. It makes whole bunch of clunking noises and it sounded like a big pieces of metal or two inside a washing machine.

I'm totally lost here. I need help to see what's going on with the car. Could it have crank walked on me? This is a 6bolt 4g63 swapped into a 2g car. Thanks in advance.

The next step seems like it would be to take it to a mechanic or pull the head yourself and have a look at the block and internals--you may have broken a piston or rod or something.

>>Edit: A compression test should tell you the problem cylinder(s), so maybe try that first and see what your compression is like.

I got the car towed to my place and I'll get a compression test ASAP. At this point, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. I'ma take off the oil pan tomorrow and see waht I find under there and I'll keep you guys updated. Please keep the responses coming, I need as much assistance as I can.

I finally got me a compression tester!!(No time). Well, I'll do a compression test on it right after work tonight and drop the oil pan to see what I'll find in the morning. While I'm at it, anything else I should look for?

hey man whats up. if you need some help on that let me know. im in westland.

Okay, I've just done a compression test and here's the numbers.

150 145 145 145

The previous numbers that I had before was:

150 150 150 150

Those last 3 numbers are low because it's probably due to the car not at operation temperature. I didn't want the car to run at all as it might mess up things more inside, so I only let the car idled for a few minutes.

Well, I'm a bit more reliefed today after I got the compression numbers, but still don't know what I might find tomorrow when I pull the oil pan. I've also played around with the crank pulley and nothing moves. It seems to be intact. I'll let you guys know what I'll find tomorrow.

My96AWD, thank you. Send me a message with you number and email address and I'll call you up if I need help with anything.

I also vote rod bearing. I've been in two cars that spun bearings and drove them to their death. It starts off like a really light knock or thudding, and slowly progresses to the engine sounding like a can full of rocks rolling down a street.

It ain't crankwalk. More likely jumped timing. Whatever it is, it's expensive.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, or make fun of anyone, but that statement from Defiant was too damn funny.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't post in a week about the condition of my car. Just couldn't find the time to. Today, I finally got the oil pan off and there was nothing in there. I do see a lot of metal particles though from wearing and tearing, I guess that's normal. Anyways, I checked the crankshalft and it doesn't move. Nothing moves except for the #2 connection rod. It moves, I believe it's the rod bearing. Here are a few pictures, but I couldn't upload them so I'll give the link to another site that I've posted the pictures.

P.S. The messages posted here by me and in this other site are the same.

Well, give me some ideas and suggestions on what I should do with this now since I know what the problem is. Thanks for those that are really trying to help me, unlike the dumbass moderator with all his shit remarks..

Pardon? You're getting hundreds of dollars of engine diagnosis on here for free. We all do the best we can with what little information you give us with what tiny amount you know about cars:
A few days ago I started hearing knocks coming from my engine around 3k RPMs and wasn't sure why it's doing that. So, I left the car sitting in the garage for two days without driving it.
You don't mention what you were doing, you don't mention what led up to it, yet you hope it'll just "get better" if you let it take a nap. You go from the wild speculation about crankwalk -apparently with no clue of what crankwalk is, to timing belt (the car doesn't run at all with a lost belt), to faulty washing machine. This after driving it with known mechanical problems.

If you have a problem with anyone's treatment of you on this board, then you report the post. That's what the "report this post" link is for.

And no, DSMs won't allow piston replacement through the sump. Very few engine designs have pistons that small and that far apart.

You've gotten your thread locked.
