Finally got a nice day to install my crank scraper. It sounds easy, but was just wondering if anyone knew of any last minute things or tricks i might need to know?

Figure it wont hurt to ask while I'm waiting for all the oil to drain out before taking off the oil pan, also this gives me an outlet to show my excitement for my new crank scraper!

dont just bolt it on and them put the oil pan back on!!!! when you install it have someone turn the motor over by hand and check for clearance at the crankshaft. ive seen alot of these on alot of different motors that had to be modified a slight bit!! check for clearance before you start the motor and turn it over by hand to check!! dont use the ignition to check for clearance.... hope all goes well!

thanks for the help, yeah they recommend checking clearance in the instructions, i got my dremel and file on hand just encase. At the moment, having fun removing the oil pan... so many bolts, only 2 left!

Obviously clearance it. But also be sure to pin it. You will want to put it on in exactly the same spot each time.

Pin first then clearance.

Got it on, waiting till tomorrow for the gasket sealer to cure before i turn it on, so will tell ya if i mess up my crank tomorrow =P. We put it on, rotated it by hand a bunch and had a feeler gauge out checking all the clearance, was good all over with no modifications needed, put RTV on it, put it back up there with the bolts finger tight, rechecked clearance, made a few adjustments, then waited an hour for gasket sealer to hold it in place, then reinstalled oil pan. So hoping for the best. I told my g/f that what i did might be a record for the longest oil change ever!

Forgot to ask, whats the worse thing that can happen if i dont put my splash guard back on? I forgot to put it back on after all was said and done, and feeling a little to lazy to get my jack and jack stands out to put it back on

well a splash guard isnt really a critical part but then again the car is designed to have it there. ive seen wierd heating issues on some cars with components like that missing cause they affect airflow around the engine and such. havent heard of the problem an an eclipse but who knows. also it keps debris from entering from the bottom side and into engine bay. gravel and road sand and stuff.

yeah i ended up putting it back on, figured it would help keep rocks and etc away from my alternator belt. Basically was just burnt out that day, did it the day after in about 2 minutes, but thanks for the reply!
