Duncan,
So I just finished putting my car back togeather after porting the turbo,o2 housing and exhaust manifold . Start it up and I hear this high pitched squealing. After looking around for a While I notices this..... The pulley is cutting into the lower timing belt cover and somewhere in that area is squealing alot. What do I need to do to fix this?

This looks like your crank pulley is seperating from the harmonic dampener. Make sure the four bolts that hold the pulley on are tight. If they are take the pulley off and look at it to see if the two pieces are seperating. If this is the problem, contact the local dealer, and order a new crank pulley.

Same thing happened to me. However, in my case the crank pully came flying off. Thank God I was idleing. I had to replase my crank shaft pully. AS it turns out I understood this is a realitivly common problem with DSMs.
If you've not replaced it yet. It's a MUST to do. You don't want the cranbk shaft pully to fly off while you're doing 80 on the hiway.

What do you guys thing about underdrive pulley's without the dampener. Good idea or bad?

Depends on several factors, the water pump will turn slower as well as power steering and Alternator. If your driving habits force you to always keep the rpm because you live in the mountains it may not be an issue. If you are playing stop light grand prix then you might realize a little improvement otherwise stock size will keep up with normal demands. Solid will give you more engine vibrations so if you like your creature comfort then use the dampner.

Cheers,
GTM
