So I picked up this 1997 GST for $650. I was told there was title issues with a family member and parked since 2018. It had some part sold off of it like ECU, intercooler setup, fuel injectors, FPR, intake, etc and I’ve been trying to make sure the motor is good before going HAM on it. It had no ECU so it picked up a 97 ECU off eBay after matching numbers. I get the check engine light for 5 seconds, I get fuel to the rail and past it, I am NOT getting any spark though.

I’m no mechanic and this is my first DSM. I’ve torn through this forum reading up and learning about the car. With that being said there are still some things that I’m unsure of. Pictured below are a few wires/connectors that I don’t know what they are for or if they are even needed anymore. These are located near the middle of the fire wall, towards the end of the wiring harness.

Any help at all is appreciated!

***UPDATE***

Installed the new coil and PTU, redid the connections at the battery as we had some loose and frayed wires. Weren’t getting it to crank after all of that. After trouble shooting and testing electrical connections the replacement coil started to melt, disconnected it, plugged the old one back in, and boom, it fired right up
If I remember most of the stuff back there is emissions related and wouldn't cause a no start.

Did you verify mechanical timing and basic checks of all sensor plugged in etc?

A basic cheap datalogger will also show you coolant temp, injectors etc. No spark could be one of several sensors or ignition transistor etc. Easy things to check.

Your ignition coil bracket looks a bit crusty, you may want to take the ignition coils off with the bracket and check resistance on the coils and on the PTU unit.

Can I see a picture of the entire engine bay?
I did just get a new coil and bracket from another member on here as it was my #1 suspect.
We were not getting voltage when cranking to the coil.
