So I recently sold my 93 TSI, decided I missed it, and decided to buy a 90 TSI from a friend. It has sat for almost 2 years. He parked it because it would sporadically cut out or not start. He told me he thought it was the CAS. So I got a good used one, and decided I'd test them both before pulling it all apart. When I ohm'd the one on the car and the one off the car i got the same readings for both. I tested voltage at the connector with the car in the ON position and got 4.82 volts. I am starting to think that it may not be the CAS. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else it could be or know of any other ways to test the sensors without pulling the old one first?
Thanks in advance,
Mat

(as a side note, it will fire up and run sometimes, but not everytime, and when it does run, it is kind of a rough idle.)

It has compression and fire. Fuel is one of my next things to check. IDK if this means anything but when it starts to cut out i hear a clicking noise, and when it wont start. sounds almost like its coming from the PCM.

ECM and PCM are the same thing. One is Engine Control Module, one is Powertrain Control Module. Same thing different name. It starts clicking when it cuts out or wont start. Or atleast it sounds like its coming from it.

Thank you to clarify.

Are you sure is the ECU..... There is the MFI Relay located close to the ECU, well is on the other end of the center console, But it clicks when you turn the switch to the start point, That's when transfer the signal to the starter and to the Fuel pump.

It could be that,,,,, But, that clicking noise is normal.
Well the clicking does it, only when turning the key to the start position, If it clicks on different time, Then it might be off...
It means that maybe your pump is not working properly.

It clicks constantly when it starts cutting in and out. I don't know if its the ECM or a relay. But I've noticed that everytime it messes up it clicks.

thanks! ill check this out as soon as I get up tomorrow and start workin on her.

this is just an after thought i havent tested it yet but im getting ready to, would it still read full rich if the fuel pump wasnt working right? granted I havent let it run long enough to warm the o2 sensor up so it probably wasnt reading right but when it does run it says full rich.
