My friend wants to sell this EVO III 16G Turbo to me for 75$. He bought it maybe three months ago and it was only on his car for ten miles or so (he bought and installed a a big 16G). Although he insist the cracks around the wastegate aren't a "big deal" I just can't see this not being a problem. The cracks run all the way through the thin lip where the waste gate closes. I was considering using my stock 14b housing but i have know clue if you can put the 16g in the 14b housing? Please let me know what you think?

okay, he's trying to sell you an "evo III 16g" for 75$ it's an ebay turbo. so those cracks in the exhaust housing will probably be the least of your worries.... and to answer your other question... yes, you can put the 16g in the 14b housing.

also, he switched from this "evo III" to a big 16g.... most people go the other direction because the REAL evo III flows more. your "friend" is trying to recover some of his loss. stay away.

You can still use it if the flapper covers the cracks. They wont really hinder performance too much. If anything would happen it would be that your spool up would be a little slower but you wouldnt notice since they are so small. Cracks are going to happen with the high heat and many heat cycles a turbo goes through. You can use your 14b hot side but remember a stock 14b housing is a 6cm compared to the 7cm on the 16g. Its all up to you though, its your money and time. Good luck to your decision.

Sorry man thats garbage if the flap doesnt cover it! I had a crack in mine and I could only get 9 psi out of it! Although you should buy it and buy a new or used exhaust housing and swap, could save you a little bit.

No its not an "ebay turbo" ive been friends with this kid for 12 years he has helped me with everything i needed for my car and only reason hes selling it for 75 is cause i help him constantly with his dsm, and the flapper does cover the cracks so no big deal?

I've seen housings cracked way worse than that which functioned absolutely fine.

There's no way a housing will crack in 10 miles, and that's not an MHI Evo III turbine housing in your photo. The Evo III 16G has high-nickel turbine housing which generally will not crack around the wastegate hole; the exterior appearance of the Evo III turbine housing is dramatically different as well:

Notice the outer lip's rounder appearance on the Evo III turbine housing around the turbine outlet.

My guess is he got a good deal on a used Big 16G and swapped the housings, putting the eBay Evo III cartridge into the Big 16G's cracked turbine housing. He's now running a MHI Big 16G in a knockoff eBay Evo III's turbine housing.

Thats a very high possibility. :hmm: Since i am new to the game he might have figured to me it made no difference from an ebay 16g or an MHI (which considering no major mods hes right) and for 75$ i guess you still cant beat it, it could also be a possibility that, cause he barely glanced at it before tellin me 75, is that he thought it was an evo III. He has a graveyard of turbos in his basement. Not to mention this whole thing took place at 4am after we painted his block in a poorly vented basement LOL. Ill get it and install it and let you know how it runs (once those damn boost leaks are fixed:ohdamn:)
