My buddy is making some ic pipes for my car and i was wondering should i go with regular couplers or the v-band style, or does it even matter?

I don't know if I would go with v-band clamps for an intercooler setup. I don't believe v-bands allow much flex. If you want clamps, look at AdelWiggins clamps. There is another brand, but the name isn't coming to me right now. Maybe if my brother sees this thread, he'll post it up.
Vband is a needless expense for a car with less than 30psi. Tbolt clamps and a bead/ridge on the piping is all that's neccesary for a solid consistant seal that will flex when needed.

I've done 23psi on tbolts and silicone and have never had a hose blow off. Haven't gotten around to beading my pipes yet either.

How big is the current IC? Get a big side exit one. There will be much less pressure drop, and work well.
yeah well since its gonna be a custom job done by my friend i dont really have a budget on it.and i have a friend who has blown a coupler off on a few occasions dont know how tight he had his though so.

Do you use hairspray to make the couplers stick?
No. I did spit on them tho!
A spring loaded t-bolt may work better.Clamps and rolled lips on the pipes work fine. Just make sure you use t-bolt clamps. The worm ones won't hold (been there done that as a quick fix <- didn't stay fixed). I couldn't justify the cost for v-bands without running boost so high as to pop a coupler every week.
Hairspray, the old turboford trick
