Sorry the topic is vague, didn't know what else to put.

Here is a little background, the other day I found a deal on dsmtrader.com, a guy about 3 hours away is selling two tsi AWDs for $1200 cash, firm. One is a parts car, and the other needs like $100-$200 worth of minor stuff to make run strong. I know little about cars right now, but taking a class once school starts up again at our Votech school, my friend has a built 11s mustang, his whole family has drag cars, my best friend knows a little and so does my cuz with my family knowing a little. I WANT TO LEARN and I see this as a good chance with everything looking in my favor. So now that you guys know I have little knowledge mixed in with a lot of "pumped up psyched to learn and do stuff" attitude take it easy on me. I've done reading on "how stuff works.com" like how a transmission works, turbos, combustion, engines, ect...

Anyways basically right now all I want to know is is there a page of compiled information of mods that can be done to a 1g for little money or anything like that, that will help take this car to a new level of speed or looks untill I can gather enough knowledge to where I will want to tune, bigger turbo or any serious mods. Anything I should replace right of the back? anything I should buy that will increase performance? By the way, the car that isn't the parts car, the head is ported.

-thanks a lot guys.

Sorry guys, I left out some information. The car doesn't really need much it needs 5 things overall to run and look normal. Here is the list of what it needs...

14b Turbo ($100-$150 off Trader)
Left front corner marker ($15 off Trader)
1g /2g Manifold ($60 off Trader)
Replace Rack & Pinion Lines ($30 DIY)
Drill Out the Exhaust System 10mm Hanger Bolts and Install ($5)
Install Transfer Case...

The manifold is a common thing from what I've heard on here so that kind of saves me, doesn't the 1g cars take regular? I thought it just says unleaded but I just want to know what grade it takes, I know the 2g gsx takes prem, and I bet the gs does too.

I found this section of the site helpful when I started to learn about DSM's.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/1gturbo/
check out the Stage 0: free mods

that and reading the forums should give you a big boost in knowledge, also check out www.vfaq.com like the FAQ says. It is great and answers a lot of questions you will have starting out.

As for if I think you should do it, I found when I started in cars I just had to get in there and do it. So I say if you have the cash go for it.

It's kinda hard to judge the condition of the cars from here. If the one "good" car is in decent shape and the things you mention are the only things it needs. You might be ok. I would definitely put a 2G exhaust mani on it. I hope that the xfer case is just a "need to install" not a gotta get and install. As for turbos, if you have 2 cars shouldn't one have a usable turbo? I would hope so. If not I would save a couple bucks up and go get a 16G or something. You gotta be able to find one of these out there. These cars should always run premium fuel. I hope this helped some.

Uh, I don't think the other one has a turbo in it or else he would have put it on, I think one busted and when he pulled the other one he noticed it was busted too. I called him Saturday night and talked to him and he e-mailed me a bunch of pictures of both cars plus a text document with all this info, all it said about the xfer case was he pulled it but not why, and then it needs to be installed. I can call him though and get it specified. The good car is in good shape, little rust, it's on the hatch right under the middle brake light ya know? Can't even really see it but I bet it could be corrected before it starts to get worse. Other then that the body is in good shape for it's year, actually great, same with the interior. If you guys want the zip folder he gave me of the pictures plus txt doc just IM me or something and I'll be glad to send them to you so you can tell more accurately if it's a good deal or not. By the sound of it I think it's a good deal, however you guys know this stuff better. I don't need the parts car so I might try to sell it as is for some one who wants to drag it, or part it out then have it scrapped.

@Vexiis
Thanks for the post, it was exactly what I was looking for.

@Batmobile
The good one is a 92, the part car is a 93. Good one is grey inside and out, I would say the outside is more of a tan. The 93 is black with black leather and interior.
