Hi all! I'm new to the DSM scene, and have undoubtably bought a project that is over my head, at least for the time being....but I'm working on coming up to speed on DSM's. I've been spending the last few weeks browsing articles on your forum to glean as much info as I can on this beast, and I've got a couple of quick noob questions that I can't seem to find definitave answers to.
1. The car that I bought is not running. It was timed improperly and bent all eight of the intake valves. I've pulled the VC to see what's going on, and I have a question about the valve springs. The guy I bought this off of got it from another guy and blah blah, he knew nothing about it. When I looked at the springs, they appear to have a second set of springs inside of the main spring. This in not factory, correct? also, the retainers are deffinately shiny stainless, so I assume these are not factory either. Correct?
2. The car had a FMIC with long route piping. I'm in the process of changing this, and my other question is about turbo piping. The turbo on the car is a FP GREEN. The outlet is plus or minus 1 1/2 inches, and he had a pipe roughly the same size ran for about 2 feet out of the turbo. Is this desireable, or should I jump the pipe size up as quickly as possible after exiting the turbo? The FMIC has 2 1/2 inlet and outlet, and I have 3" piping available. It's easier to route the smaller piping, but I want to do this right.
Thanks in advance for any and all help, and I look forward to becoming a contributing member of this forum!
