Ok so I've narrowed it down to a wheel, the Black Racing Pro N1 in 17x8 with a +38mm offset either in black polished with polished lip or bronze (pics at the bottom). My car is green (pics in gallery).

Question #1: will this wheel allow me to use a 245/40/17 sized tire. I've looked around a done research and it seems that the tire is not very far from the stock 205/55/16 (I think thats what the stock ones are).

I have narrowed down the tire I want to BFG g-force t/a kdw2, bridgestone potenza s-03 pole position, kumho ecsta supra 712, or yokohama avs es100. The car is daily driven and will see the track every once and a while, but I am looking for a sticky tire as the car being FWD.

Question #2: Which tire? Money is not really an option for the tires because I need traction. I'm leaning toward the s-03 and the bfgs.

I would appreciate any input good, bad, whatever. I just need input. I have really thought this through and can't come up with the answers.

If you can define your goals you may get some better tailored advice.

A little more searching would be good, too. For example, that 245/40/17s will work on a 2G with 17x8 +38mm as long as the rear fender lips are rolled had been posted many times. Separating the tire questions from the suspension questions would also be wise, but please make sure that they are new questions. Thanks.

Goals are good grip and handling for street/drag. Also if the wheel tire combo I chose would fit with little to no problems.

As jtoby indicated, your choice in wheel and tire size combinations will work and is in fact a popular combination. The reason I tried to extract some more information from you is that you must have a suspension that can accommodate the wide tires. You will not be able to go extremely low because 245s will not fully tuck under the fenders and camber correction will exacerbate this.

I am going to avoid the tire discussion. They don’t usually go anywhere. Everyone has an opinion based on anecdotal data. Very few people have the ability and opportunity to objectively test multiple types of tires.

[Poor guy. He's getting tag-teamed.]

You cannot optimize tires and wheels for drag-racing and cornering at the same time. Drag racing wants soft sidewalls, which means tall tires on small wheels. Cornering wants stiff sidewalls, which often means short tires on larger wheels (but not always). For example, 245/40/17s will not help at all with any wheel-hop issues; those sidewalls (especially on some of the tires you listed) are much too stiff.

Everyone wants everything. Everyone gets mutliple sets of tires and wheels or is soon disappointed. If you are getting only one set of tires and wheels, set priorities and accept the compromise.
