Counterclockwise rotation?

Can rotating a 4G63 counterclockwise cause it to jump time? I was replacing my lifters and I rotated the engine counterclockwise by hand. I believe it may have jumped a few teeth and it won't start now. Can jumping a few teeth cause the motor not to start? I'm receiving fuel and spark on all four cylinder and it turns over no problem. The only other thing I can think of is my engine coolant temperature sensor but that was working just fine before I replaced my lifters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rotating your engine counterclockwise can bend valves. Just had my timing skip two spots, waiting to hear back now. Try a compression test to see if your valves are bent

Yes spinning the engine backwards can cause the belt to skip. It loads the the belt tentioner the wrong way.

First thing to do is rotate the engine and check all the timing marks.

Sorry about that, I was panicking last night. My engine did jump a few teeth for sure, it won't line up after 6 rotations of the crankshaft. Is it possible to bend valves this way or just jump timing?

A. of you had spun the motor hard enough by hand to bend valves then you would have had to have had a braker bar on the crank. B. you would have certainly heard any valve to cylinder contact the first time you tried to start the motor. so ya retime it re set the tensioner then try it again. Good luck

seems like its a sensor/wire issue then. i didnt check to see if you have link but if you do check for any codes or CELS or DTCs, you said you have fuel and spark then it seems like maybe something like the CAS, or ecu or something of that nature, maybe maf, something that has to to do with making timing and fuel and spark sync up and thats very few things that do that IE, maf , map ecu , Tps but ya check wires and sensors Now IMO. This was a little while ago, but what were the results?


There should be a noticeable amount of resistance rotating it over by hand when you're on the compression stroke.. unless your intake valves aren't closing fully.

After you rotated it counterclockwise, did you use the starter to rotate it or did you do it by hand first?

Yeah, there was a resistance on the compression stroke. The initial way that I found out that it was out of time was because it wouldn't start. Luckily, I didn't bend any valves and was able to get the engine back into time.
