I so new. I went from Stangs to DSM. What is internal wate gate and what is external waste gate? Thanks. I dont want to sound dumb, but I never had a front wheel drive car. Just want to add a turbo to my motor and am doing some research.

Thanks

these guys make turbo kits for the n/a

i personally think it would be too big of a pain though and would be cheaper and easier to buy a turbo car.

that being said, the wastegate is how the extra exhaust flow from the manifold bypasses the turbo compressor. using a boost controller you can set the point where the wastegate opens and therefore stops you from making more boost.

an internal wastegate is a flapper in the turbo housing while an external one is mounted to the exhaust manifold. they both do the same job and you will not get better performance from one or the other. however if you are getting a lot of exhaust flow and are running too low of a boost then a smaller wastegate might not be able to bypass all the flow and you will get boost creep. on some turbos you can enlarge the internal wastegate. however if that isn't big enough then you would need an external gate because they are much larger.
