Could this be the alternator?

I was driving all day today and on my way home I noticed that everything started to slow down, the windshield wipers were moving really slow, the heat even on high heat was barely blowing, the radio wouldn't come on, my gauges weren't working. When I got home the car kept wanting to die unless I reved it up. Finally I shut the car off and tried to restart but it is a no go. The car turns over but everything is real dim as if the battery were dead. I check the connection on the battery and it looks good, the belt is is still on the alternator. Did my alternator just tank? Thanks!

could be your battery too....you can also take your alternator to autozone and get it tested
