Could I get some last advice/suggestions on these tire packages before I buy?!

I have TSi Fwd with 205/55-16 stock and the new set will not be used in the winter.

I'v decided I want the axis spider wheels in silver at 18 inches. Im still a little lost on tires yet though. I'm ordering off spyeng.com and here is a link to the packages: http://www.spyeng.com/spy/spider.html

I'v checked clearance with martincheck.com for all 3 sizes and they all seem to clear fine. I'v basicly decided that I'm gonna go with Kuhma 711, kuhma712, or Sumitomo HTR+ for what I have to pick from.

So basicly what I need to know is what you guys would get for a 2G fwd turbo DSM?:
215/35-18
or
215/40-18(not sure on tires for this size)
or
225/40-18

Sure. Here's my advice.

Sit down and ask yourself if looks are really that much more important to you than performance. Going farther: Do you really want to spend a pile of money to make your car slower? Because that's what you are planning to do.

I'm not asking for your opinion on these rims....I'm asking what would be the most sufficient tire size for these rims and this car. Now please can I get a serious answer?

edit" Besides, these rims weigh the exact same amount as my stock ones.

Yes, but the weight is farther out from the center, which hurts both acceleration and braking.

With regard to your not wanting advice, try this: I'm thinking about shooting myself in the foot ... should I use a .32 or a 9mm?

Haha, this guy is bashing you for getting custom wheels, but click his info and what do you see? A 2g talon with custom wheels. :thumbdown

In regards to your question, I have no idea. I'm sorry. :dsm:

Idiocy begets idiocy. The advice Jtoby gave is probably the best advice I've read in my last 6 years on various car related forums... neatly summed up in 2 simple sentences no less.

It takes a certain amount of intelligence to know to ask the right questions... the same is required in processing the answers.

The matter here is whether or not one should buy custom rims. It is what you want them for... performance or looks? Larger rims have more mass away from the center of rotation, this mean the effects of their rotational mass on handling will be more and more significant... and that the relationship is exponential to speed, not linear. In plain english, at low speeds the difference may not matter, as speed rises... the strain the suspension and driveline has to overcome could increase 10 fold.

Here's a simple Jr. High level physics experiment for you. Get a bicycle wheel with working hubs and all (shouldn't be a difficult task since it probably wasn't long ago since you stopped riding a bike to get anywhere). Hold the wheel by the ends of the axle with your finger tips - one hand on each side. With the rim remaining motionless try and tip the entire wheel side to side. Pretty easy isn't it? Now have a buddy spin the wheel as fast as he can manage. With the wheel spinning at speed, now try to tip the wheel. You'll find it to require a little more effort than before.

Jtoby - don't bother wasting bullets. It ain't worth it... ;)

As for the topic.... it's "Kumho" not "Kuhma". I believe TireRack sells all of those tires mentioned. Go there and read the reviews since you seem unwilling to take sound advice.

Nice Post PaulPDX

I wish people didn't have attitudes when asking for help..

if you're checking out width, obviously wider is better.

the rims you want are 18s.. 18 by what? if i were you i'd get a minimum of 225/40/18 if not 235s. the width of the rim should be 7-8"s. wider will give you more traction in turns and on launches.. with an FWD you'll need all the traction you can get.

Most guys that talk on here are about speed and less about cosmetics. 18" rims will slow you down because of rotaional mass. that's all tjoby was making you aware of.

next time try not to be an ass, and maybe be a little more open-minded.

I take a day off to work on the water injection, but Paul has my back. Thanks.

As to wasting bullets ... I agree to a certain extent. My replies are only half for the person who asked the question. They are also for people who were wondering the same thing or might in the future (assuming that they actually do a search).

As to my "custom wheels," please note that my streets are some of the lightest 17x8 +40s for less than $150 each and that my racing wheels are THE STANDARD for autoXing a 2G DSM.
