Cost To Rebuild A 6-Bolt

Yes i have searched. How much would it be (approximate figure) to buy a used 6bolt with a boatload of miles and rebuild it to factory perfect specs?

You can get a complete Top line rebuild kit from slowboy racing for $499 plus a couple of hundred for machine work. The kit includes "Here we offer the most complete basic engine rebuilt kit. We offer .20 over 8.0:1 pistons, rod and main bearings, b/s bearing, freeze plugs, timing belt, b/s belt, and a full gasket set. The gasket set includes a head gasket, metal exhaust manifold gasket, intake manifold gasket, O-rings, semi-circular plug, distributor O ring, valve stem seal, cam seals, thermostat housing gasket, EGR valve gasket, exhaust pipe flange, throttle body, valve cover, water outlet and spark plug tube seals".

I have about $680 in machine work done. That includes boring/honing, polish crank, hot tank, Shot peen/polish resize rods, balance rotating assembly and Mill/service the head with a valve job.

Since you are going to get a good rebuild why not build with MORE QUALITY type parts? Maybe just a 1g/2g bottom and a NICELY ported/polished head rebuilt with better parts.

well i dont want to spend all this money and go crazy with the motor. A factory 6bolt is good enuff for me, so my budget is right around $1500 (cost of a motor that i got quoted)

You should be able to get it back to factory specs for around $1500. Buschur charges $2000 for their stage 1 shortblock and once you get the $500 core back, you're down to $1500.

Send Buschur your core to rebuild and voila, $1500 and the peace of mind that Buschur just built you a solid bottom end.

sounds like a good deal. But first i'd have to pay to buy a decent core, pay to ship it, and then i'd still have to purchase a nice head

Are you sure? I always thought it was $2,000 with a $500 core charge. If you don't give them your core, you pay $2,500.

You can get stock or stage1's from slowboy dirt cheap. I cant speak first hand for their work though.

Bleh, that may be. I've always been confused by core charges, and Buschur seems to be high on everything else anyways. So I'm probably wrong
