Core plugs!?!?!

I need help like crazy! My motor has been running for a week or two now and I finally hit 600 miles today. So, I went to the track today and I blew out a freeze plug. And a week earlier, I blew out a different one. What's going on? It's driving me nuts. I think I have an idea about why it may be happening, but I want other opinions. Could it be the head-gasket leaking under high-boost and leaking into my coolant jackets and causing them to shoot out? Please help, guys!!!

Sounds like the guy who did your rebuild didn't install them right.

When you put new ones in, make sure you clean the block Good, and use some Gasket sealer when you knock 'em in too. If they aren't perfectly level, they won't seal.

He didn't use sealer on any of them. The one that popped out last week has some, but the rest don't. I'm just worried there's more to it. I don't want there to be, though. Please continue helping me.

Mine was doing the same thing, except it would blow them out when the hg blew. The gasket would blow and put all the compression into the water system, just like you said.

Properly installed, a core plug will far outlast the radiator hoses in terms of holding pressure. Sounds like your machinist used the wrong size, or dicked the installation.

Please don't feed the myth by calling them freeze plugs. They're there to hold the water passage cores in place when the block is cast.

I assumed those were supposed to hold up, but that's why I'm so confused. Being the wrong size plugs is possible. I just thought after two that there was something else causing it. I checked my oil and there's no signs of any coolant in it. My coolant is oil-free as well.

One last thing, I ordered the OEM gasket set for my rebuild and the H.G. it came with was metal. It wasn't the felt. I had the block decked, but the head wasn't. The head was hot-tanked and we cleaned off all the old gasket. Does that sound like that could be leak? I sure do.

Well, i'm the guy who put in the core plugs on the block. I did get the right size, and did install them correctly. I build motors quite often and this is the first one that has blown plugs. Why it would be doing it I dont know. Unless the metal hg is leaking like Reg said...I think it should be the first thing he checks.
