Cops bust street racers in Norfolk VA

If I do "street race" now I rarely go over the speed limit any more than a soccer mom does in her van. Let's start pulling those crazy ladies over! I just get to that speed a little faster than she does. Profiling is what I'd call it, and as we all know, profiling is wrong.

So your saying, Cali cops have nothing better to do?

If you ask me, its pretty stupid how serious they get about modified cars. Shouldnt they be focusing on drug busts and abusive husbands rather then "big exhausts" and "flashy shit". Oh well, Delaware 4 life.

Gee.. you mean they can't just tax us all day long?

I have respect for the night watch here, because they actually patrol and what not.

It seems like the day guys just sit there and radar everyone.

:thumbdown trust me i live a 2 miles away from one of the biggest street racin streets in tha valley glenoaks and cops r so sneaky drivin around in a white cobra. hehe so yes cops are comin down hard but f*** it it will die down in a couple of years. this is where it started it will never be the same!!..... Is it?

You're walking down a city sidewalk. Coming toward you on the left, next to the curb, is what appears to be a homeless beggar. He's asking other people for spare change. On the right is a man in a business suit, clean-shaven, carrying a briefcase. The sidewalk is wide enough for you to avoid either, but not both.

Tell me you don't profile.

Cops are about as many things as all the rest of us are, but few of them are outright stupid. Some of the laws they're charged to enforce, and the ways they're allowed to enforce them are.

Anyone know what constitues a race in cali?

I know that in Mass you have to spin your tires from a stop... thats the only referece to it I saw in a traffic law book I was looking at while back.

Yes, street racing is bad. But, it seems like these kids they arrested were doing it the "smart" way. Id much rather someone race off somewhere instead of on a highway or something. Yes, I know all street racing is bad, BUT there are responsible street racers. Id much rather the cops sit on a freeway catching the jackasses that weave through traffic at 90. I dont know, maybe Im alone on this though.

"Police said the Mustangs confiscated in Wednesday's raid had illegal racing slicks and nitrous-oxide fuel systems that can propel the cars up to 130 mph."

My N/T can go 130... I dont get it. Hell, with the right gearing, my car could be "propelled" to 300mph. I guess you need Nitrous to go that fast now.

Pretty much the cop deciding he's got enough to get a prosecutor to press charges and take it to court. It might need two cars, but I'll bet there's exceptions to that.

That would probably be "Exhibition of speed" here. You'll go nuts trying to compare one state's vehcle laws to another's.

That came from the press, didn't it?

Try to remember that when they tell you about a flu innoculation shortage, the cost of gas, how a war's going, or what politician is "better".

Sure, we all do, but our profiling doesnt get someones car impounded or them thrown in jail. With power comes responsibilty.

These cops are doing just because they have to. Like I said above it is the popular thinkg so it has to be in the spotlight from both ends. The cops have to make arrest and soem punichment because the scene is so big and they use profiling to do it.

I'd just avoid the beggar not to be hassled on my way to work, but then again I'm a poor college student ... blood from a turnip. Hell chances are I'll be the beggar. I go to the school where all the law enforcement majors (well a significant majority) attend and I know how a lot of them think. Many of them are my friends and I asked one about this whole business. He told me that if you dress your car up like a race-car of course it's going to catch a cops eye. It's your responsibility to not go screaming down the highway or drive like a maniac. (With power comes responsibility I suppose.)

As for "smart street racing" I think there is such a thing. Although it wasn't a street it was an old municipal airport. It also wasn't an open invitation sort of thing. If we knew you could drive then you were invited. I'm not saying it was a good idea, I'm just saying it's not the deadly sin that it's being made out to be. I've seen more wrecks from that highway weavin than from any amount of racing. I agree, pull those douche bags over. They're enough to make me want to stay in the slow lane.

^^^^^ Heard That! ^^^^

Crushing modified cars that could be sold for money used on police expendures is stupid. They seem to always be bitchin about the low salarys, and our taxes seem to always be on the rise. Smart cops would sell the cars, use the money (legally), and shut up about it. But I guess it's worth it for them to waste potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars, just to make a point..... :thumbdown

You would need gearing and a LOT more power to go that fast, you don't make enough power to go that fast, but we get your point.

I've thought about moving to Cali after college and decided one thing. My car will be registered with my mommy and me as a registered driver on the insurance. Then I won't have to deal with the smog crap :).

a great thing u can do now to fight back against cops profiling is go to DMV. ask them for the records and they can show you how many times your license plate has been run from the cops...you can actually take the cop to court on profiling because you have a modified car. my brother in law is a police officer an he informed me about this.

"Nothing better to do"? are you frakin nuts? Stopping racing saves lives. More then just racers die when things go bad.

They are not cracking down any harder on modified cars then they have been doing for years... They are doing somthing to prevent the grocery getter from getting smashed by some punk racing.

And for them taking your car, if the law says they can, they can.

Once again I'm glad I live in Alabama. All the cops have to worry about here is rednecks driving their trucks over curbs trying to catch green lights and the occasional can't drive in the rain morons.

Maybe in Virginia -where some seem to think "u" means "you"- but no such records exist in California. We only keep track of violations on the driver's license, and very often those don't include a license plate number.
Again, it may be different in other places, but if you go before a judge out here on a speed ticket -particularly if it's any kind of racing or exhibition- your ass is done for.
And so much thanks for the gravedigging.

I think drunk drivers kill more people than street racers do. I am totally against street racing and those who do it should be castrated (seems like a better punishment). If anyone should get their cars crushed, it should the drunk drivers.

I totally agree, drunk drivers need to be hammered alot harder then they are. Chalk it up to weak ass judges and weak laws that are passed.

Locally I had to go to fight a ticket, lady was there on her 3rd DUI in a year (7th overall)... found quilty, 500$ fine 6 mo suspension...
think that is rational? yeah I think not...
She needed revokation, $6000 fine, 6 mo jail time MINIMUM.

The hang out spot in Norfolk VA was busted last night. 76 tickets. 9 cars towed away. check this out.

http://wtkr.com/Global/story.asp?S=4584098

There is a video under "Site Features" called Street Racers.

I was there too. Lucky me I left before the cops got there... I just go out there to hang out, but seems like they were writing tickets for everyone.

I hope they do loose their cars and the liscences. Its this reason why I can't drive my car down the freeway at 60mph without getting harrassed because I am a street racer. If this doesn't teach those #### heads a leasson then only death will.

Is it me or should it be "lose" instead of "loose"? Sorry that was just bugging me. You would think whoever wrote that article would know.

LOL, yeah you're right it should be "lose".

Not to condone street racing but how arrogant they must be to freakin stop highway traffic with rolling roadblocks just to race. They might as well put banners on their cars saying "HEY LOOK AT ME! I'M RACING!"

IDIOTS!

Happens all the time. They call it rabbit racing or some crap. I have never done it. That is just asking for trouble..

"Police have been monitoring the racing for several weeks, clocking drivers traveling in excess of 150 miles per hour, so fast, they couldn't even catch them."

LOL atleast they admit they couldnt catch them.

Street racing = gheyness, hope they all get maximum penalty and lose all there cars

Ahahaha.....look at the PINK civic on that page! That must be the fastest thing out there!
