Copper flake after 400 miles on new motor??

Well, ive had too many problems with this motor and this is another problem that is just in the back of my head now.

Well, i have an oil pan leak so i dropped my oil pan to reseal it.

Drained oil and it all looked great, no silver shimmering or anything

Pulled the pan off and then drained the excess oil from the pan into a bowl next to me for some stupid reason.

Wiggled my connecting rods side to side and they did move, more than i thought they should, They did not move up and down though.

So, i put the pan back on with a gasket and black rtv.

Actually stripped one of the pan bolts because it was one of the long two and it stripped a hole, but Whatever.

I then got everything back together and was going to let the car dry over night and then just add oil and drive tomorrow....

As i was cleaning up i looked at the oil in the bowl and saw a glitter of Copper.....

I was like wtf. I just had cleaned the bowl before use, so nothing was in it.

My motor is brand new and my turbo was jsut rebuilt and does not smoke at all.

So where did this copper come from???? I have no idea.

I have never taken this motor past 5000rpms yet and have never boosted past 11 psi yet other than a spike to 15 and fuel cutted.

I added UV dye 100 miles ago to pinpoint a leak but that was 4 TBSP's and could never cause any damage.

Can someone tell me something???

I know that alot of journal bearings are lined with copper

Yeah, this was one flake about the size of a BB but flat......There was no other flakes in the oil of any color but this one.

Could it be copper spray??? from the new HG? or no

I wouldn't think so...copper spray usually doesn't just come off in flakes...it's usually stuck onto the gasket. I've seen plenty of failed bearings and they are literally flakes of copper in all sizes and shapes. What exactly do you mean by side to side? Front to back? Driver to passenger? Are all 4 of your rods like that? If your rods move that excessively there is a good chance those bearings are shot, and are either about to spin or already spun. On top of that they could've ruined the crank too...you adventurous enough to take your rod caps off? If so take some pictures...they posses lots of info.

Well I had the pan off, while it was off, I COULD wiggle the rods driver to passenger.

I could NOT wiggle the rods up/down or front/back.

If it were any sort of bearing, shouldnt there be more than just one flake??

I thought there would be a bunch of silver and copper shavings if a bearing were bad, not just one.

yea side to side a little is fine up and down and back and forth is bad. if it was bearings trust me you would know it right away. if all you found was just that little 1 flake then just put oil in it and drive it and keep a eye on it it could have been anything. i dd a car that has had a rod knockin for 7 months now i know what bad bearings look like and you would to if you saw it.

well, if i saw like shimmery silver and a bunch of copper flakes, i would be very concerned but i just saw one flake?? Where could it come from...my turbo maybe??

Because I broke in a motor without using a turbo feed filter, maybe shaving got into my turbo and fuvked it up, but its not smoking
