Cooling fan wont work

I have a 90 talon tsi awd. I Just got done swapping the engine out of my 92 tsi fwd into the car. I swapped the 92 engine harness as well. The car is up and running now, but having some troubles with the fans. I installed slim fans as pushers due to space constraints with my setup. I wired them both up to come on with the cooling fan circuit(passenger side). The do not come on.

I have done some testing. They come on if I jumper the relay. so my wiring to the fans is good. I have watched temperature on my data logger climb up to the 235is range and no fans. I tried jumping the 2 wires that connect to the temperature switch in the radiator together and the fans do not come on. I read that they are supposed to but not sure. I also just put a new thermostat in the car just in case because my radiator core didnt seem to be getting real hot. It is now though. If I jumper the fans the car will sit and idle forever and not over heat, but they wont come on on their own.

I have no ac, and the fan wiring from the ac side is not connected. I dont see that this should cause a problem. I also dont have the small fuse box that goes in the drivers side rear of engine compartment. I know this controlled ac fan. I shouldnt need it for just the cooling fan side should I?

Jumping the relay would mean you bypassed it and just provided direct power to the fan. Test the relay, if the relay is good, you need to test to make sure the relay is getting power. Let us know the results.

Sorry. I had also tried swapping it with a known good relay. Still didnt work. Is there a schematic of this system somewhere? Also, was I right that jumping the wires that go to the temp switch in the radiator should have started the fan?

Also which spot on the relay should recieve power to energize it?

Ok I'll make it easy. You said it works when you jumper the fan relay. If you look at the manual you'll see then that either 1) the fan relay doesn't work, or 2) you aren't getting power on the relay's blue-black wire when the key is on (check with voltmeter), or 3) the relay's green-black isn't connected to ground when the fan thermo (temperature) switch is on.

I suggest first grounding the relay's green-black (with relay in) and turning the key on to see if fans turn on. If they work, then that ground circuit is the problem. If not, either you have a bad relay or no voltage on the relay's blue-black wire when the key is on.

Thanks for the help. I will check this tomorrow at some point. I am pulling trans anyway so I will probably try to test this first.

And yes, I planned on looking at wiring in manual when I got a chance to be at my computer for a bit(like now). Those files are a bit much for me to look at effeciently on my phone. I was at the car and just thought maybe someone might have an idea as to what it was.

And luv2rallye thanks for going ahead and breaking it down. I knew it had to be a problem in the circuit that energizes the relay but didnt know which wire color should be what.

Well, I did do a little testing, and I am not recieving power with the key on to blue-black wire. I only recieve voltage to the feed wire on the power side of the relay. Those FSM files seem to give my computer troubles loading. I can open them, but takes for ever to load when scrolling from page to page so it makes them real hard to find stuff in. I need to track down where that relay is supposed to recieve the key on power from now I guess.

Lol. If I was just going to hardwire them I wouldnt have needed to ask anything on here. I just want it to function as it is supposed to.

The blue-black comes right from the ignition switch. The diagram is on page 8-84.

With the car running you get constant 12 v to red wire at the relay. the blue/black has key power from ignition system.

Ya, I get the constant 12v power, but the blue/black from ignition isnt recieving power.
