Cooling fan issue.

I recently installed a SBR cast manifold with a Tial Wastegate and dump tube resulting in me needing to remove the A/C fan.

After removing/unplugging the A/C fan the Cooling fan will not kick on. Is this a single circuit that i am interrupting? I did not think that was the case but i am not sure.

I tested this out by driving the car for a bit and coming home, popping the hood and observing the cooling fan not running. Car was at running temp.... it should have been on. I then carefully took the A/C fan and plugged it in by holding the shroud above the plug as opposed to where it normally would sit mounted on the radiator. As soon as i plugged the A/C fan in the cooling fan kicked right on and the car idled better and cooled a lot.

What did i not do?

I know i can buy a 10" slim fan and wire it on but i see no need and would just like to run the one. (I don't have much room at all now in that spot)

I have no clue why it is acting like this. I know of a few people that have run their 2g w/o the ac fan and the other one works just fine.

My radiator fan just fine without my A/C fan. Sounds like somebody screwed up the wiring maybe. Does the wiring look stock? Are all the relays working in the fuse box?

The wiring has never been touched. Its all stock and i know it is for a fact.. Weird huh

You can test and see if it will turn on by grounding the switch. I dont think the dumptube or new manifold would melt the wires,but it wouldnt hurt to check.

Volt test it. Make sure your getting power to it.
Im going to hard wire a switch for my fan when I get my TSi, cause I want it running cool as possible.
Test the voltage, and make sure the connector is clean.

Indian this may sound weird but do you mean ground the A/C plug? Whats strange is when i hook the A/C fan back up the cooling one works but it will not work when the a/c is unplugged.

Indian's 1g has a switch, 2g's don't. Both fans are controlled independently by the ECU on a 2g. Someone has changed the wiring somewhere (possibly around the relays?).

The thing is i know the wiring hasn't changed because the car has only been mine .

having the same problem, when i had stock fans in the both kicked on. no hackin of the wiring. i'm putting slimmer fans in. the ac fan kicks on just fine, but i'm going to hook up a cooling fan, but, i have no power coming to the plug... any ideas. all relays are fine i switched them around just to make sure they all worked fine... any ideas?

The slim fans are single speed so only have 2 wires. The stock ones have multiple speeds and 4 wires. If you didn't connect it up properly it's possible the ECU tryed a speed that isn't wired.
