Coolant overflow tank light

Ever since i puchased my car the coolant over flow tank light has been on. the tank is full but i believe the sensor is bad. it had oil in the coolant before i bought it and everyting was fixed and the float in the tank was gummed up with oil. i want to know if there is a way to bypass the light without having to take the light out of the dash. i have tried unplugging it and even jumping it but it still stays on. any ideas?

Are you looking at the right light on the dash? I just read in another thread that the wiper fluid light was confused with the coolant level light.

if it's on constantly then you have a short to ground. all the switch does is if it's low, it switches to ground and turns the light on.

see if you have continuity from ground to the Blue/yellow wire (if you do then your shorting to ground). black wire should have continuity to ground.

or check for resistance (set your meter to ohms) number 37 on the back of the connector on the instrument panel and from the switch plug (should be the same color from both connectors) should read very low ohms less than 1 ohm, if there is high resistance look at the harness for any cuts/tears, if you have low resistance then suspect there is a short in the actual instrument cluster.

or just pull the bulb out. since your there already .

Are you sure jay4725 isn't correct? I thought only 1g's had the coolant low light. Perhaps someone put in a 1g bottle.
Anyway if you unplugged it and it's still on, it can't be the problem unless that wire is shorted to ground somewhere.

its the museum light thats staying on
