So, lately Ive been having those transmission problems, but now today my car decided to totally fail, and I dont have another car.

Basically, I'm driving, my transmission keeps slipping or whatever... so I stop figure everything is hot, which is it. After about 3 minutes of having the hood open, steam and spray is coming out the back right corner of the head. Then coolant is all over the ground from the bottom of the car. I refilled a little bit of coolant 70/30 when I got home, started the car, let it idle, turned it off, same thing happened so now I have vids and pics atleast. Any ideas whats going on?

This also leads me to believe my transmission problems are maybe heat related? My other idea was thats my amp would draw too much power/my battery is dieing, so the comp isnt getting enought power but thats absurd sounding.

PS: started new thread because its a new topic on my engine/coolant messing up.

in second video, when i first lifted the wires, coolant was pouring/spraying out like crazy. I tried moving them to see

Sorry to hear about the problems... but we've all been there. :)

How many miles are on the car?

Transmission: First thing to do is check for leaks and the condition of the fluid. If the fluid is brown and smells burnt; leave it alone and start looking into a new transmission unit or rebuild. (Changing out already burnt fluid will only accelerate the damage that's been done) If it's still red in color and low, add some and then look for leaks. I know on the Neon's the transmission cooler lines tend to leak. I believe that these also have a trans cooler. Yes, you are right, heat is the #1 enemy of Automatics. Unfortunally if they get overheated, it tends to cause quite a bit of damage; much like en engine. Start there and see what happens.

As for the coolant problem... are there any heater hoses running back there? It's hard to tell from the video; but the steam doesn't seem like it's coming from the engine. So I'm thinking perhaps its a broken/spilt heater hose? You can always perform a compression check/leakdown on the the engine to check its overall health, as well.

Hope that helps some.. good luck!

You've overheated the engine at some point, haven't you?

In my limited experience with them, 420A engines seem to always have headgasket failures in the same spot you're having trouble. It seems the open deck block design coupled with this weak spot usually results in powerwashing half of your engine bay with a nice jet of boiling hot coolant.

I'll defer final verdict to some of the resident 420A experts, but that's my best guess.

The 420A is based off the Neon engine, and the early Neon's always had HG failures until they switched over to a MLS type gasket. If yours doesn't have the MLS gasket; then yeah.. it might be a head gasket failure.

Remember though, the use of a MLS gasket requires that the mating surfaces be prepped correctly.

In the day light it looks like a hose, what would have caused that to burst though? At this point I just wanna know what happened haha >.> I had to push my car home alone at 3 am

Lack of maintenence is almost always the cause of blown hoses. At least your interior is pretty blue though.

From the look of the pictures ## heater hoses are right there in that area so i would was under ## hood with the garden hose let it dry then id say pull your battery. You will have alot more room to look.
