coolant in crank case, heater blows cold air

Last night my car started running hot so I pulled into a parking lot to let it cool off. The thermostat is new, the waterpump is new, and there was fresh coolant in the system.

when I started it again and started to drive home it heated up again and this time i noticed that cold air was blowing from my vents, even though the heat was turned all the way up.

This morning I opened up the oil cap and saw foam on it. I noticed it looked like some coolant was mixed in on the dip stick too.

I'm assuming this is a head gasket issue but i also read something about the oil cooler seal. What do you guys think?

Sounds like the head or head gasket has developed a leak. This would cause the exhaust gas to compress the water passages with their higher pressures and thus inhibit the flow of water through your cooling system. From your description and a few horror stories that I have personally witnessed you should pull the head, have it thoroughly and I mean thoroughly tested. If someone is willing to certify beyond the shadow of doubt the head is good, then I would reinstall it to the block. I'm also concerned about the oil in the water. Could be gasket, could be head. In my experience, it's usually the head. Just have it tested by a qualified machinist. This would also account for the loss of heat in the heater. Air lock will also affect the heater for the same reason.

thermostat was done on friday or saturday.

I drove the car to Tulsa, OK and back Sunday night. Its about a 90 minute drive each way. I didn't drive much else this week. I went out to eat last night and on the way home is when it started overheating bad. On the way to tulsa it would run a tad hot if i didn't keep the heat on a little. At that point i think it was low on coolant. I filled it up and thats when i had my problem.
