how easy would this be......would i just have to switch out trannys the drive shaft and the rear end?....would it be cheap if possible? is there more to it than this?

It is a lot of work and very expensive. you would probably be better off buying an AWD. There is a list of everything you need under the Tech Articles of this website.

What? Since when is this that hard, or expensive? It has been done numerous times. Its pretty much a bolt in thing. If your FWD is pretty much stock then maybe your better off buying an AWD. However if you have invested as much time and money as I have on my car there is no way I would sell it and swap everything to a AWD. I plan on doing the conversion this spring. If you look around you can find all the parts for under 2k. As long as your mechanicly inclined and can deal with a little fabrication its no problem. Considering how much you will spend on tax, registration, ect on a new car you would probably be better off doing the conversion, unless you plan on paying someone to do it. Just think you can tell people you have a GST(because you do) then rip them out of the hole with AWD, they will never expect it.

Expect to replace A LOT. It is complicated for the people who can't fabricate their own parts, but you'd be replacing the whole rear suspension as well as the parts you mentioned.

If you are serious about the swap, just buy a junk 2g AWD and use it's parts, or sell your ride and buy an AWD.

It really would not be worth it, and yes it is expensive because where are you going to find a tranny let alone a rear end for cheap.

I think you should just stick with your fwd and invest in some drag slicks instead of awd swap, and if you really want a awd you can find a 1g that needs work for very cheap, i just got a 90 tsi awd with some bent exhaust valves for $700

So what parts do think you have to fabricate? Sure it doesn't bolt right in but its not like you have to make custom parts. Adjust the mounting brakets for the gas tank, cut some sheet metal to get at some bolts to replace with longer ones for the rear end and weld some exhaust hangers on. Whats the big deal? Theres one guy(same guy that wrote the tech article) on here that can do the swap in a day. Like stated above, find a GSX with a blown engine or crashed and you have everything you need.

Why? If you are telling him to go buy a LSD for 1k and some drag slics for a couple hundred more, your getting close to 1,500 which I have seen AWD conversions go for this much. I would much rather have AWD than an LSD and slics. I don't understand all the hating when it comes to this subject. Do you really think that your going to find a GSX in the same condition, milage as your GST for the same price? Not to mention the hassle of selling your car, finding a GSX that you like and paying sales tax on it, registration. I would much rather do a swap than go through all that crap. Of course if you don't have the mechanical know how, or are just lazy you would probably say "Just buy a new car".

What are you talking about i wasnt hating at all i was stating my opinion, i of course would rather have awd too thats why i have it, I just think that it would be cheaper and more reasonable to sell your fwd and buy an awd seeing that you probably arent going to keep your car forever and when you decide to sell your gst with a gsx conversion do you think you are going to get you money back, and about the whole hassle with selling a car and buying one it would be less of a hassle/work then swapping a completely different drivetrain in your car.

So instead of swaping the drivetrain that will take a weekend to do, you think selling your car and buying a new one is easier? It will probably take longer than a weekend to sell a car and find one to buy. I'm not trying to start any arguements and everyone is entitled to thier opion. To me its like saying "My tranny went out, oh well I'll just buy a new car it easier" As far as getting your money back, you don't get money for any mods so whats the difference. Also I will never sell my car with over 10,000 invested not including purchase price, I'll never recover that money. Not to mention I will probably spend another 15,000 to 20,000 before its done. I wasn't saying your the hater, it just seems like everytime this comes up, the only response givin is buy a new car. At least let the guy know it can be done and isn't that hard. Now if you have a 1g on the other hand sell it buy an AWD, 1g requires alot of fabrication and is not worth the hassle. Of course this is my opion, do whatever makes you happy.
