I am recently looking into buying a 2g Shell. The only thing it doesnt come with is the engine. The car was an auto and i have another 5spd tranny i was originally going to drop in. How easy is it to convert auto to manual? Is it easy to make a spot for a clutch, or should i continue looking for a manual? WTF

I personally wouldn't do it on an AWD. You'd have to change everything, like the t-case, and rear end, and tranny. May have to do axles and you'd have to get the pedals, master and slave cylinder, the shifter assembly, and shift cables. Plus a flywheel and a new clutch. I think it's too much work, but maybe I'm lazy. :)

Thanks. I didnt know it was gonna get so complicated. It doe seem like a lot of wor and money. I guess i would be better off just sticking to the manual from the get go. but i have been offered a good deal on a 2g Talon Tsi AWD for 1100 locally. the only thing wrong with it is has a blown engine, but it comes with the interior and auto tranny. Would it still not be worth looking into?

If you can find a cheap engine, for sure. If not, you could still part it out and make your money back. I'd still try and talk them down though. :D

I found this site alil while ago for JDM engines, it was $2800 for the 1g 6bolt and a 5spd tranny. The only problem is i cant find the site now. I have heard from everyone that putting a 6bolt is the right way to go. They are more sturdier and can withstand more power. What problems may i enounter when it comes to installing a 1g engine into a 2g? One thing i heard also is that its illegal to put older engines into newer cars, didnt sound convincing but is it true? Im gonna try to get the guy to go cheaper, i will see what he says. :talon:

What are your goals for the car. If its straight line stay auto as they have been proving to be extremely potent on the track. Yes the price to build a trans is really high but man building boost on the line, never getting out of boost when it shifts, really consistant, and killer 60' times would make me pay for it.

i understand what you are saying about the auto being better for drag racing. but that is not my sole purpose for the car. i am definately planning on modifying the car, but i prefer to drive a manual car as my daily driver. :talon:

understandable thats why I asked. :thumb: You should buy it, the fix it, and then sell it. Take the money from that and buy the manual that you want
